Hello

I have recently started collecting glossy toy soldiers but would like to have a go myself at painting. Can anyone suggest a good on-line source for a manufacturer who produces castings that are the closest to the classic Britains vintage so I can have a go at producing a set that are in the spirit of their Regiments of All Nations sets? I am planning to do something related to British Army subjects from the 1937 Coronation.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Williams dad - Have a look at www.dorsetsoldiers - then have a look at the left hand column - and go to "Britains Re-visited", where you will find lots of Britains lookalikes straight away. The rest of the range is also very compatable with old Britains - and not wildly expensive either. Have a chat with Giles brown - the owner - he's very approachable - and can advise you better on what he has.

Best of luck - and good hunting - johnnybach

I concur with JB that Dorset is your best bet and Giles is a great guy and will surely sort you out with some suitable figures.

Welcome to the form btw.

Thanks for the suggestions. I collect mainly Asset Miniatures figures at the moment as I really like the choice of figures that they have and they service they have given me. However, they are a bit more detailed that old Britains soldiers, so if I start on a project that emulates their style of painting I should be okay.

Hi WD - Good choice with Asset castings - but much more detailed than Britains older re-casts. I forgot to tell you that Dorset Soldier castings are shown painted in the catalogue - but prices for castings are shown in the castings list. Typically, a Guard re-cast of a an old Britains Guard figure will be £3.30 - and much easier to paint - as they hold far less detail. As that is what you originally asked - Jeff and I recommended Dorset.

Asset are particularly good - and model quality. Agreed that Anne and Colin Randall are very nice helpful people to deal with. johnnybach
