Would anyone know if the Britains cavalry sets of the past ,would match up in size to Hockers current stuff, as well as Dorset and Wessex...Thanks, Michael

WBs and Wm Hockers seem to match well. can't respond on the other brands

I don't own any Hocker or old WB, but Hocker states that he is trying to create sets in the style fo the old WB. He makes teh sets WB never got round to making or would have made today if the original family were around. I thinks he prides himself on capturing the spirit of the old WB.
Regards
Damian

Maddadicus,
I have a couple sets of each that you are talking about. I would love to have pictures to show but am working, shhhh!
Britains old stuff, even 90's , as you know is smallish. Hocker is dead on for size. Dorset figures a little larger than the WB and the horses are minimally larger. Wessex is comparable to Dorset sizes, from what stuff I have. I'll have to get some out to compare. Great thread starter. :)Mike

Yo Trooper. GET YOUR HAIRCUT lol. This is By Clash Of Arms. Lord Cardigan, and I am sure he uses some of Dorsets figures looks very like the Dorset on their site, goes well with Britains Light Brigade, I havn't noticed any difference in size.
Bernard.

It is off the subject but in comparing the two I prefer the Hocker. WH appears to the successor to WB but only better................

Funny, that was exactly my 1st thought when I saw this comparison. Couldn't agree more. Another plus is you get your figures without paint chips:D

I've never had the pleasure of owning a Hocker set -- are they hollowcast? And, are the horses complete or are they hollow like Hiriat?

Dick

I think they're both too small and toyish. They are'nt hollowcast though. I'll get some stuff out soon to photo. I have an Ox Wagon from Hocker around I think... Mike

Thanks -- I looked at the Hocker web site, and thought the Royal Horse Artillery set looked nice. Is it any more "toyish" than the vintage Britains?

Dick

"they're both too small and toyish" , which is what makes them toy soldiers. I have one WH, Lord Cardigan at the charge, and it is beautiful. If I could I would get more but my war budget is a little constrained right now.

Wessex puts them all to shame in detail and paint..I have a Wessex 17th Lancers (ZW) and a Dorset Mounted Infantry Set (ZW)..Will post photo and you will see that Wessex is larger than Dorset...Michael

Guys, to clarify
"toyish" to me doesn't mean "to play with". If that was the case, all my matte stuff would be toyish. I actually mean , and I hate to sound anything, is that they look like they were painted by Victorian grade-school children trying to make a penny. Bright pink circle cheeks with black dot eyes with no character, which contearilly gives them the "character " we all know and love. Mike

Is there any web site I could go visit to view Wessex figures?

No, I have tried to find any info about them, and all I know is that Dorset bought them, but it seems that there is not much simularity between them...The Dorset set is in blue.....Michael

They, Wessex, are not even mentioned on Dorsets web page. they might be out of production

I have a few Hocker sets and like them very much. The horses are hollowed out and if you turn them up side down, you can see the hollowed out space between the four legs. But when the horse is on its four legs the hollowed space is not visible.

You right on in all respects! Mike
