Yo Troopers, just got a book, Richard Simkin,UNIFORMS OF THE BRITISH ARMY
The Cavalry Regiments by W.Y.CARMAN. Its one superb book, it was recommended to me by Skeeterbuck ( Thanks Chuck) shows all the Cavalry from the 1600s through to the Great War all colour plates. Boy these Toy Soldier makers better be on the ball with their Cavalry Uniforms from now on, or I will be right on their case lol. By the way shop around if you want it, some dealers are asking big money for it, got mine from Holland for 40 euro's.
(happy days).

Yo Troopers, some of you will already know this, but for the guys who dont, according to the Author, W Britain designed most of their early soldiers on Richard Simkin's work, one notable one is the Famous Lancer Officer sitting side on in the saddle, also noticed some of Hamleys Hussars set are almost identical to some of his paintings.
Bernard.

Funny you should mention this as I was just ready this article today.

Yo Trooper, there you go Scott, one door opens so does another one, funny thing as well on top of page Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, was just going through the Documentary Channel for tonight, and there is a programme saying they can disprove Darwins theorys were wrong must give it a look, never believed I came from an ape anway to good looking lol.
Bernard.

Re: the simkin book, I am envious. I have looked for it for some time and they are hard to find. the publisher should republish

Bernard,
I am really glad to hear that you enjoy the book. Sometimes just because you like something doesn't necessarily mean others will enjoy it too. But knowing that your a calvary fanatic like myself, I thought recommending it would be a rather sure bet. This is my number 1 reference for painting and modelling british calavry units. At 40 euros that was a great price. I know I paid that or more over 5 years ago when I bought my copy.

Now you need to look for the other Simkin book on British Infantry. ;)

Chuck

P.S. My one complaint, if you want to call it that, is I wish that there was info about the types of horses each unit uses or used. :(

Bernard,
If you do not have it you may want to take a look at Into the Valley of Death- The British Cavalry Division at Balaclava, 1854 by Mollo and Fosten.
Fosten's color plates are very nice and the Crimean cavalry uniforms are top rank
