Buffalo Soldiers at San Juan Hill 1898 (1 Viewer)

Bill Hocker with the release of his new Spanish American War series has commemorated the valiant contribution of the African American Buffalo Soldiers at San Juan Hill. The 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th Infantry were an important part of this historic battle. Five members of the the 10th Cavalry received the Medal of Honor for their bravery and 25 others were awarded the Certificate of Merit. One member of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders said:

“If it hadn't been for the black cavalry, the Rough Riders would have been exterminated."

I love military art. I own a few Troiani's, some Freeman's and others. As to Hocker's Roughriders, I will be looking to collect this line. If folks have never seen the Roughriders movie, do so, as it is well done..Michael

I 2nd your film recommendation and add the PBS American Experience Documentary below. Also here is a typical patriotic song sheet issued during the war. I agree this is a great line to collect. Any thoughts on building a troop ship?

Randy, I must admit to being a warhawk. I am a big fan of the very unique battleships of that era and if I made a ship of that time, I would pick one of those early battleship types. They were small by today's standards and with all the exposed rivets and guilded trim, make for attractive models..Michael
