I had left the WAMA but was contacted and Informed the Dc3 had been done up a bit and use in an ABC production (About a 4 sec scene)...latter I attended an auction of the DC3...all reassembled and spray painted (we shifted the Dc3 by truck to that location..When I left the WAMA there were no plans to reassemble it ...BUT.. we were hoping to move the DC3 across the road to be displayed at Whiteman Park as part of their transtpot display.....that plan was rejected by the powers that be at WP..even though the aircraft was supposed have been flown by the old Micky Mouse Airline here in WA......anyway to end a long unpleasant story (to me anyway) the Dc3 was sold to a bloke in Busselton ..a farmer..I think.....that aircraft was in good nick,,,,full cockpit instrumentation....Dc3 luggage compartment etc.......I caused a little damage to the rudder post as the vertical stabilizer and rudder had to be remove when we shift the Dc3 from McDonald in Midland....that was about the only damage I can remember.....I have photo of moving the Dc3 from Midland...photos of the auction set up and if I can find it,,,a news paper clipping of the Dc3 being transported to Busselton.....I think this happened about 2000...I am 77 now so my memory aint as good as it used to be.........I would be happy to supply more info if you wish...if I can remember that is....cheers TomB
Thanks Tom. I was interested in knowing what happened to the old plane. There used to be two of these flying around Sydney 10-15 years ago (Dakota airlines?) but I don't know what happened to them.
