Been a while since I posted some work here. I was varnishing quite a number of my shadowboxes so didn’t have room to do sculpting and sanding. Instead picked up some figs to try to improve the ptg on them.
Carrying on with the WWI piper. I decided to improve the arms and remove the excess lead. Also the hands. The rough details were filed off. This original figure (British bulldog or bastion? ) was produced as a toy soldier. However the previous owner must hv done a conversion but put a left hand modified on the right hand. There is no point in trying to resculpt it. I decided to file off the details and paint in the corrections. Notice the resculpted pouch in front.
Now going thru my Ancients/Medieval box. Came across these figs and wondered why I didnt do anything with them. Details look good abeit suspect but they make great painting exercises and I can quickly expand my figure collection with these minor personalities.
Tausius - couldn't get any info on him until now. A member of the Praetorian guard who assassinated Emperor Pertinax in 193 AD. Hooray for AI...
Cotta - General Officer under Julius Caesar. Cotta had a broken sword which was repaired.
Both figs were mounted on wooden bases.
Crusader Knight with broken spear shaft. I replaced with a new shaft.
I decided to add a Roman spear to Tausius as he had assassinated the emperor with a spear. He is represented in the Cafe Storme Mokarex range as he was from a minor Belgian tribe who rose up to join the Praetorian Guard.
Buoyed by my little niche understanding of Roman Belgian history, I dug further into my ancients hoard and came across these two figs, tribal leaders Commius and Amborix. Both associated with Julius Caesar. There is a statue of Amborix on the Internet where the figure is obviously based upon.
I had gotten them semi-broken and so I cut them up for spares and used them for practice armatures.
