Guys,
Under the M3 Monty 's Grant thread there are questions re the new addition "Cambrai" so here's the story.
When Rick asked last year for thoughts on what Tanks Figarti should build it seemed their was an appetite for British Armour hence Monty's Grant.
Whilst researching I was surprised to find that a good Rugby playing friend was a troop leader in the 3rd Royal tank Regiment "C" Company in the'90's.
(Using the Challenger)
As we put the world to rights over a few beers and by talking with the resident historian at the Tank Museum in Bovington (England) we learnt that not only were 3RTR at the first tank battle in WW1 at Cambrai but they were also in the vanguard at El Alamein using M3 Grants.(And lots in between and after)
So we decided to make a Ltd Edition version of only 30 to commemorate that deed.
Interestingly, all tanks associated with "C" company have been named with words beginning with C.
Sadly due to changes in structure 3rdRTR no longer exists in its own right and has been amalgamated into 2RTR, although a strong "old boys" network exists.
Although this model maybe doesn't have the same patina (or cost) we're hoping it will be shown alongwith the regimental silver at the next reunion dinner.
So "Cambrai" represents the 3rd RTR "C" Compnay at El Alamein, October 1943
It comes with a Tank Commander. All are individually numbered and certificated.
Although I airmailed a few in, the main shipment arrives next week.
So book early to avoid disappointment.
Details on www.grey-goose.co.uk subsidised shipping to US, free in UK.
And a big thank you to Simon (Wraith) for posting the photos on the other thread.
Regards
Clive:)

Can you send a quote in US dollars? Not familiar with the current exchange rate and VAT fees associated with Euro countries.

Trying to see which is a better deal, getting a Cambrai or having and M3 Lee repainted (The turret looks different from the Grant though. Would that be historically accurate? Also, I am sure that some Grant did not have the side skirts). I already have the Monty. Looking for 2 additional Grant as support (I'm sure Montgomery had support elements when inspecting the troops).

BTW, what does the acronym RTR stands for?

N-P,

I the Lee had the additional cupola with MG mounted above the main turret, which the Brit Grants didn't have. I can't remember seeing any photos of the Lees in Brit service, but can't give you a definative confirmation I'm afraid.

I got one of these babies as soon as i could,it really is a very nice Tank. The sculpting and finish are superb.Even the crew are very nicely done.A wonderful bit of work from Figarti and as always supplied in excellent condition by Clive.I really, really, really, really hope Figarti do more British Tanks. There is both the demand and wide scope for them.:)

Here is my preferred link to WWII vehicles where I clipped most of the above Bristish tank pictures http://www.wwiivehicles.com/ While it is comprehensive, it is by no means complete. But it is a good reference site.

You got to love a country that names their tanks Matilda and Honey. Prefer the Brit method to our naming tanks after deceased generals. would you want your son and heir going to war in a Cardigan or Chelmsford ?

Excellent pics Michael, thanks for posting.I'd love to see an Archer,Desert Churchill,Comet,Matilda and of course the Firefly.

And Clive, i'd like them all by the end of the week if its no trouble;):D

Rob

Rob,
Your wish is my command "Mon General".
I'm assuming just a squadron of each at this stage.

And Sceic, love the photos.
I can assure you I have all round photos of just about every vehicle in the Tank Museum at Bovington so plenty for Rick and the boys to be contemplating for many years to come.
It's a shame most of the early to mid war British Tanks looked the part but were pretty poor until the Comet came along which morphed into the Centurion probably the best Tank for a generation.
That statement should get a debate going!!;)

Luckily Hobart's creative genious in creating his "funnies" was a saving grace.

:D That will do nicely Clive;).

Seriously though very much looking forward to seeing Figarti venture into Allied armour territory, the Grant is a shining example of what hopefully we can expect in months/years to come.:)

Rob

I was presented with the "Cambrai" M3 Grant, and I can say, in no uncertain terms, that it is the finest Allied tank in my collection. It is beyond exceptional. Anyone who has the opportunity to add one of these masterpieces to their collection should not hesitate. Absolutely AAA++++++++:cool::cool::cool::cool:

I laughed at 4th Hussar's comment as below
"You got to love a country that names their tanks Matilda and Honey. Prefer the Brit method to our naming tanks after deceased generals. would you want your son and heir going to war in a Cardigan or Chelmsford ? "

I guess we won't be seeing a Custer tank from the USA !

Does anybody know where the name Matilda came from. Sounds like should be an Aussie tank.

Regards
Brett

If memory serves it was named after a popular cartoon Duck of the time, people also thought the Tank looked like a Duck from the front.

:) I just Received the Figarti M-3 Grant tank! It is Nicely done, BUT some of the Metal on the side Shirts, has not been Glued and the Side Hatch Door/Entry Door has Broken Off! Now I must say , this Tank is Smaller than Expected! Why, because I have 2-DD24 K&C Lee Tanks, and Converted 1-Tank with a Plastic Turret from a 1/32nd Model Kit, which really doesn't do much justice! But Andy's Tank's MUCH Bulkier M-3, and MORE Realistic of the True size of the Original M-3 Grant Tanks, that was used in NAfrica! I hope Figarti's 1/30th Scale NEW Figure's, is as large as Andy's or CS Figure's? CIAO!
