Three similarly posed mounted figures, from three different manufacturers. On the left is the excellent Robert of Abbotsinch, by King & Country. In the middle is Gerard of Ridefort, from Black Hawk's new Templar series. Conte's Magnus the Mighty, from their Viking series, is on the far right. All three mounted figures and their horses compare perfectly in size and all are beautifully executed. Sculpting detail of the Black Hawk figure is excellent, but the painting is not quite as good as that of the King & Country or Conte figures.

I would agree regarding Blackhawk though I haven;'t seen their Templars in the flesh. From the Zama figures I have collected, they are a bit smaller than KC and Conte

I think Conte and KC are equally impressive for this era.

Can you post a little bigger picture?

My eyes are getting to old for small stuff. And yes, I know how that sounds when discussing miniatures :)

George...I just looked at the Black Hawk set from your Mosque post...they do like very nice...I'm not crazy about the poses...they all seem very idle...but I think I will order one to see how they look...I wish they had more action poses...

Hi Michael,

The Black Hawk figures are the same height as K&C and the feet are the same size or even bigger, but the hands and heads seem a bit small, in my opinion, compared to the rest of the body. Those parts are smaller than on their K&C counterparts. The mounted Gerard of Ridefort sizes perfectly, because the horse is the same size as the K&C horses and the knight is wearing a helmet, so you can't see his head. The painting is fairly good in some areas, but certain other areas, such as the red crosses on the Templars are not all that well done. For example, I could see brush strokes and white showing through the red and the painting was not in the lines everywhere. Also, the white tunics of the Templars were over weathered, so that they were actually grey, instead of white. I repainted them white. I had to retouch parts of all four of my Black Hawk figures. But then, I'm a perfectionist and I expect excellent workmanship on the figures I purchase. Many others are probably not as fussy as I am. Hugh of Paynes is a nice Black Hawk figure that sizes well with my K&Cs

Toy 4X4,

As per your request, here are some larger comparison images.

Hi George,

Many thanks for doing the comparison. Most helpful and much appreciated.
