As I was the one who posted the photo, I have enlarged and cropped the original photo file. I hope this helps.......

It is the Right Angle Football Game made by William Britians

Catalogue # 1528

(Britains catalogue description)

An interestng and exciting game for two or more players, based on the regulation game. It consists of a football field with twelve men (six per side), football, two dice and full instructions for the game.

The open board measures 24" x 12"

Estimated value is $1,500 - $2,000

Hope that helps.

Britfarmer beat me to it.....!

A good mate of mine David Edwards (a highly respected collector of 'civillian' Britains) tells me that set 1528 featured in the 1937/38 catalogue. If you can get hold of a copy or image you'll find full details of the set. It's called " Right Angle Football Game " and the grandstand illustrated on the box featured 'Britains Games' on the roof.

The footballer figures were unusual in the fact they were made specifically for the game as solidcasts rather than the usual Britains hollowcast footballers available at the time.

Incidentally, anyone interested in collecting civillian figures (Britains, Timpo, Phillip Segal et al...) maybe pleased to hear that Dave has published a fascinating book on the subject. It's a delightful trip of nostalgia making a refreshing change to soldiers, tanks and uniforms.

Hope this helps...!

I have the Norman Joplin book on civilians which is a great reference. Could you tell me more about your friends book. I would possibly be interested in obtaining a copy if you could also provide the details please.

Thanks

Scott

Hi Scott

I suggest you contact Dave directly by e-mail on:

david.edwards29@btinternet.com

He can give you details on the book and how to get a copy from him. He's a lovely fella being both knowledgeable, modest and passionate about his collecting. He's saved me a few bob by advising me on avoiding dodgy buys.

Best wishes

I think your best bet is Google the game and/or the 1937-38 catalogue. Alternatively, drop Dave Edwards a line he may know or know someone who does.
