Evening Fellow Collectors,
This week end I was laying out my display room, to see where the best location for the diorama might be placed. Turns out the biggest and best wall space is the darker side of the room

Friends stopped by and the wife, who collects items like Hummels and Llardos, said that certain types of artificial light may damage the paint on the figures. I know that direct sun light is very nasty and will fade anything but she said be careful what type of lighting that you use. Has anyone ever heard of issues with florescent or incandescent bulbs? I would hate to come into my room one day and see a display full of white ghosts  .

I have seen many fantastic displays here at TFT in what seem to be "simple" display cabinets. Any issues noticed?

I have no experience with lighting but I do know that incandecent does give off an awful lot of heat as well as using a lot of energy. Perhap try those energy saving bulbs that fit a standard socket but have the same effect as a flourescent. They do work and do save you money!!!

I don't think there is any issues with the LED type of lightng.

Larry,
Are you talking about general room lighting, or specific display case lighting?
For general room lighting all types are safe(minus some grow lights out there) Inside the display heat is the factor, even with the new CFLs. LED is the best and worst, with the resulting light miniscule to the others. I would stay away from the halogen and incandescent inside a closed display cabinet, unless the distance from the figures is substantial, like 18 inches or more.

Thanks for the advise. The lighting (at this point) will inside the cabinet. The display will be enclosed for dust and safty considerations (Cat with BIG feet). Above the display will be additional display shelves for other items.

Thanks again for the thoughts!
