Let’s inject a cold splash of reality. The guns seen in the photograph are one of W. Britains Ltd classic’s; Set No. 1264 - 4.7 in Naval Gun (Mounted for Field Operations). They are the second version of the gun introduced in 1934 , the original version being offered by the company sometime during the Second Boer War. Judging from the reported date of the photograph (September 1940), this could well have been the last lot of these guns manufactured until the end of World War II when Britains Ltd. resumed limited production. What’s amazing is that the gun remained in production until 1970.

Hence my comment of whether it was truth or propaganda !
Having located this photo that I remembered from a few years back, I thought it might be fun for those interested to see the photo.
Sorry that I appear to have offended you.

Steve,
No offense. None whatsoever. As a life long vintage Britains collector (they are thinning ranks like the hair on my head) very much enjoyed the photo. Just thought I could place it in accurate historic context. Depending upon your particular interests, you may enjoy seeing the gun among its comrades-in-arms; http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2011/06/less-we-forget-past-glories-remembrance.html .

Wow, you have a massive collection there !

I think the phrase "captured from Germany" refers not to the actual guns but to the trade in toy soldiers in general - implying (correctly) that British firms, in particular Britains, had surpassed the German firms making toy soldiers which had a virtual monopoly on the market until Britains hollow cast models came on the scene.
