Here are some Carabinier castings that I painted up from ATKM kits. I bought 2 dozen of them and still have 20 more to go but here are the first 4 I have complete.
I made a flag bearer using a metal hand cut from another figure and drilled it out and added a metal rod. I used a piece of metal cut from a soda can for the flag and rolled it around the rod and glued it on.
Here are some pictures!

Here are some pics of the castings! They are kits and can be built into various poses by gluing the arms and heads into various positions. The horse that they come with are kinda crappy so I used TSSD and Italeri horses but the saddles are molded onto the figures so I had to cut all the saddles off the horses which was a bit of work.

Wow, outstanding output! You've been busy!

Ken's figures are great! Regarding the horses, do remember that he uses plastic horses to cut down on shipping weight.

It's interesting that he comes from the wargaming world, and he sells the supplies for gaming, and also makes his figures available in sets with the necessary tools for tabletop gaming.

I hope someday he branches into the Seven Years War, I would love to see him put out some Prussian, Austrian and French cavalry. I've got a bunch of his Revolutionary War Hessian Jäger for use with my other SYW figures, they're well sculpted, in a unique style.

Prost!

Tim...they look great...the flag conversion was brilliant and turned out spectacular...

Excellent work - love the Flag conversion too. First-class idea of using soda can for the flag - I'll tuck that one away for a later date too!

I quite like the idea of a light-weight horse with a metal figure for the rider - saves on a great deal of weight. I'll have to wait until I'm back in the UK to get mine - as I want some too. At the price Ken is asking - they are just too good to pass up on. Are you going to try the "heavies" too? I believe the horse is a recast of some Deetail horses - done under licence. Once painted - they are difficult to tell from metal anyway, so save hugely on weight, transportation costs and price too,.

Well done - keep 'em coming - and post some more as you build up your troop!

Thanks Guys!!! Ken seams like a really nice guy! I talked to him on phone and he sold me the rider sets without the horses and also sold me the sets without the command figures on the second and third set so I wouldn,t end up with 3 officers and buglers. The first 4 took awhile to get painted up! and to think I just have 20 more to go!:rolleyes2:
I also picked up a couple of sets of the french marching sets. I started work on those also, nice looking figure kits at a great price value!^&cool
I have a set of the French Cuirassiers also. I picked those up first and they are painted up already, I post a few pics here in a minute. I want to pick up another set of the Cuirassiers soon and do a flag bearer for those also and add more troopers but I don,t know if I want to go through painting up another one of those flags free hand??? That was a lot of work and didn,t come out as well as I would have liked. I think I might try and hunt down a printed one next time?

Here are the Cuirassiers from Ken @ ATKM that I painted up! The figures are the same with different heads (helmets)and bedrolls on the back of the saddles are square instead of round, Again great figures at a great price and they painted up nice!

I cannot resist chiming in to say how wonderful your work is!
As to the flag, I can see it must have been a pain, but trust me, it looks GREAT! If you want to do pre-made, your best bet is Flagdude. You should select his cloth option and ask for an eagle, but even then it should be under $10. If you want to save, I can show you how to make a paper flag by printing, cutting, gluing, and weathering.
As to your purchase of French infantry marching, I am very disappointed to hear this. I myself am working on a set (all I really have left are the faces and gun/button details), and I know they will never measure up to yours!{sm4} Out the window they go!{eek3}
I see Ken at many shows, and he is a great guy.
Regards,
Sandor :salute::

Thanks Sandar! Ken sells the eagles for the tops of the standards, that is where I got mine. I think it was like $4 for a dozen of them. I,m not a great painter either, just get yourself in a well lit area with a bright light and buy a good magnifier with yet another light on it so you can see all the fine detail and just keep painting and if you mess up just let the paint dry and keep doing it over till you get it right or as best as you can. Nothing shows your painting mistakes better then seeing them here blown up real big on the computer screen and seeing all the stuff you missed like the side of the saddle on the officer where I missed the black outlining on one side.:rolleyes2:
I look back at my painting over the years and I can see that it has improved over the years and the more you do the better you get. I still have a lot of improving to do but since I can no longer afford the prices of these pre-painted metal figures looks like If I want painted metal I,m going to have to learn to do my own.:redface2:

Ken makes it to many wargaming-themed shows, often accompanied by his lovely wife. If you ever get down this way from the Bay Colony, I think he's a regular at Historicon/Cold Wars/Fall In. You are correct, they are both very nice people, it's always great to visit with them.

Prost!

The Cuirassiers look just as good too!

You mention the often high prices of many of other companies for painted versions of their products. It may be as well to note that Ken charges just $45(US) for 8 ( that's right - EIGHT) figures for these two mounted ranges. That's just $5 and a half for each mounted figure!!! The postage is good value too - as the horses (as previously mentioned) are plastic, whilst the riders are metal. The saving of weight in this configuration is passed on in lower postage charges.

Makes you think about the profit being made on similar painted versions elsewhere - eh???

I know that when I order mine ( when I'm back in the UK), that even though I'm likely to incur Import charges from British Customs - and an outrageous "Handling Charge" from the GPO - I'll still be getting a bargain.

Well done again, they look just great. Keep 'em coming.:D jb

I love your work! Which battle are you making? I cant wait to see them all together and thundering across the field onto a poor infantry square or some artillery!

Keep up the amazing work sir!

Dave

Thanks guys!!! Dave at some point I have to break out all my french cavalry and have them attack all the Prussian/Russian troops that I converted and painted over the last couple of years. My French cuirassier units have grown in size and if I mixed all the different brands together in a large dio that should look impressive now if my table dosn,t cave in??? I have the K&C first set with a few doubles, the collectors showcase set, The Frontline set, I have a few sets of Britains collectors club sets and a few of the early britains cuirrassier sets and a few more Del Prados and now these guys not to mention all the other types of lancers and Dragoons chasseurs and other French cavalry I could add!
I,m going to need a bigger table if I set up that diorama! I might be looking at a couple of hundred cavalry troopers riding down on those helpless Russians and Prussians???^&cool

Great argument for learning to paint your own, John! ;)

I agree with you on this point about Ken's product. It's a very good deal, for what you get. And if he ever does decide to do Seven Years War figures, I will be very interested. Even if he just did French-and-Indian War figures, I would love to see Red Indians and Rangers from his hand.

Prost!

Hoka-Heya to that request Kemo Sabe! Some Injuns and Rangers would be an excellent choice - and would rapidly find a home with me too.:D jb
