Hi Leadman,

Interesting historical examples of cardboard models.

Are yo aware that this "genre" is very much alive and well in Europe?

There are swags of manufacturers in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Ukraine (just to name the major centres) who are turning out 1,000's of "card" kits of boats, ships, planes, tanks and vehicles, trains, buildings.

GOOGLE: "Card Models", "Paper Models", "Karton Models", you can refine your search by scale and subject

There are many kits of large aircraft in 1/33 scale (almost as good as 1/32 or 1/30) which will never be made by today's makers, or if they are the expense would be prohibitive. For example, there are excellent kits of the Hansa and the Hadrian gliders, which have full interiors, opening doors, movable flaps etc; for about $US 35.00.

How good would they look on your "D Day" set up?

And remember, you are not restricted to the "printed" scale. If you find a kit in say 1/33 scale and you want 1/30. It is a trip to your local "Photocopy shop", to have it blown up. A word of caution, one gets the best results when reducing size, eg: 1/25 down to 1/30, etc.

Have a look, it might change your life!

Happy Modelling,

Oberstinhaber
