I've read on other sites that it's essentially unsafe to store many TS figures in the original packaging. The thinking behind this appears to be that moisture can be introduced into the container and subsequently rot the figure. First, is this true of JJD figures, or are there useful distinctions that can be made between brands when it comes to storage? Second, If I acquire some new figures, should I immediately unpackage them in order to protect them?

Hi Moe,
That's a new one on me. I think as long as they are stored in a dry environment, I can't see there being any damage. Maybe the humidity could be a factor, but certainly not here in the UK. I have to admit that all my JJD figures are on display, & don't live in boxes. I have a few K&C figures stored away, but I haven't noticed any problems. Happy to be proved wrong!

Hi Pete,

I came across the comments here:

http://www.the-toy-soldier.com/index.cfm?siteid=259&itemcategory=31947&priorId=31841&pid=31841

In hindsight, for clarity's sake, I should have focused on this passage as it was really concerning me:

In addition, do not put your figures directly into the foam cutouts that they may have arrived in. Paint and foam both can contain petroleum products, and these can interact over time. In fact, paint can transfer to the foam, and a once glossy figure can mysteriously develop a matte finish. If you wish to use the original packaging, wrap the figure with a layer of tissue before inserting into the cavity. You wil note that all the new Britains figures come wrapped in tissue.

Just about everything that I've purchased, TS-wise, has come in the inserts that the article makes reference to.

I used to live on the Gulf-coast of TX, a truly corrosive environment, between humidity and salt in the air!{eek3}

So, what you think?

-Moe
