I received in the post a bare (no figures) slightly battle damaged OD Chaffee a couple of days ago (bought at discount, knowing about the damage). With that in mind, I had no issue with messing around with it.

There was a little damage to the R.H. track and the barrel was loose. The barrel stuck straight back in, but I fancied a sealed up tank, so I started messing with the hatches. On the Chaffee, both the Commander and Driver's hatches are metal, with lugs on, glued in to holes in the polystone. I managed to pry the commander's hatch off with only minor scratching, but had to cut through the metal lug for the drivers hatch.
After attending to my cut finger, I cut the lug off the Commanders hatch, cleaned it up a bit, same with the driver's hatch and selaed them down - perfect fit. Tiny bit of squadron green putty applied.

I then started paying attention to the .50 cal, and noticed that the mount for it is in the wrong place, with one of the legs, slap in the middle of the second hatch. So I pulled that off, turned it around and stuck it back on in it's correct position. I filled the hole in the hatch, touched up the few scratches that had by now developed with a mix of Vallejo fieldgrey and Tamiya 67, and when dried, drybrushed the areas with khaki, which seemed to be about the best match I could muster.

So, I now have one sealed up Chaffee, with it's .50 in the right place. :)

Looks super Simon!! I think you may have wished to have been part of the US Army tank corps at some point in time. ;)

Gotta love it when you can buy a set and just mess around with them- you and Alex are a tad more gutsier than I.

Simon It looks good to me? Love the damaged stuff! Always a great way to get the feet wet.

I would never have thought it was damaged. That came out really great.

Bravo Simon! Job well done indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Nice restoration of a damaged item. You can't tell that there was ever a problem.
