Hi all,

Please forgive me if this has already been a thread ( and if so, would someone be kind enough to direct me to it! )

In the original promo pics for the series the Russian guns are shown finished in green. ( which I had assumed was correct. )The released product are of course brown.

I've had mine for some time but wondered if it would be more authentic to re-paint them green? ( and why did K&C change their mind on the colour finish? ) Any advice would be most welcome!

Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy,

I've been collecting COTLB figures since the 90's - Frontline, Britain's, Tradition (no K&C)
my Russian Artillery, Britain's and Frontline are all green.

Imperial Russian Artillery are green too.

In fact, most of the pictures I've seen show green gun carriages..

Many thanks Bessieres, I thought that was the case. I also seem to remember reading in "The Reason Why" an eyewitness account of seeing Russian Guns in their "Bright green paint".

All the best, Roy.

I have bought the russian gun in Hong Kong

The gun material is very light, feels like plastic

I wonder if anyone has received it yet?
Do you think it is made of plastic instead of polystone???

According to my reference on Napoleonic era artillery, Russian guns were apple green with polished fittings. I have NA149 K&C Russian canon and that is exactly the colour - a bright apple green.

I have seen paintings with the Russian guns in Crimea as brown, but that is only a few paintings so who knows if it is accurate.

The K&C advertising pictures show a brown colour for the canon for CRW007

But for CRW004 for the gun crew, the canon in the photo is apple green. Presumeably it's the same canon photographed at a different time?

Thank you for the pictures Terry. I have two sets of CRW007 and two sets of CRW004 and all four guns are Brown. ( Even though the box art of CRW004 shows a green gun! )

It's just puzzling me why K&C obviously were going to do the gun Green, but went with Brown. I'm definitely veering towards re-painting my Guns!

Cheers, and thanks to everyone for their help.

For what it's worth, my opinion on the colour is that it should be green. That was the standard Russian colour during the Napoleonic era and Russian artillery was not modernized until after the Crimean War. So I think it should be green. Before repainting, you might ask K&C why they used brown. I suspect it was from a painting where the artist used his artistic license?

Many thanks again Terry - I think you are probably right regarding the "use" of a painting. It could well be the painting you chose to illustrate in your reply. In fact as well as the guns being brown in it, the Russian Gunner being cut down and one of the mounted Lancers are almost identical poses to two of the released figures!

Cheers, Roy.
