Charles Hall was one of the very finest - if not the finest - modern producer of toy figures. He started his production in 1977 with some Scottish regiments figures ( He was a former police officer in Glasgow, Scotland). His range grew up to 350 different figures including the largest variety of Salvation Army figures ever issued. He also made beautiful "oddballs" figures like Robert Burns, Charlie Chaplin, Hitler, Dracula and others...
He sadly past away a few years ago. I managed to find a gentleman who was a distributor of CH figures in the USA. He managed to get some of CH molds not all of them just a few... The molds for Salvation Army sets were destroyed after only 100 sets had been made. One of this sets was recently sold at Bohams auction and a UK buyer sadly decided to sell it piece by piece at eBay, trying to make more money on the set :(

I have not find any threads related to Charles Hall production on the forum...Does anybody collects his figures as well? If so please post the pictures :) I will post pictures of his famous 'midgets" set later today... and if you have any of his figures for sale or trade drop me PM :)

I am very lucky to have obtained a BOXED set of 6 Charles Hall KOSB in mint condition from an Ebay dealer some time ago...I also just won at auction a set of MOUNTED Charles Hall Dragoon Guards which look to be extremely rare, white plumed at the halt w/drawn sabers. The detail on these figures is astounding and I heard that two Hall Brothers from Edinburgh may have developed serious eye conditions as a result of such close paint detail. Sadly, I do not have a digital camera with which I can post some photos -

Good pick, I saw them being sold at the Old Toy Soldier Auctions last week. Charles Hall made only 3 sets of mounted figures: German SA brown shirts, the Scots Grey and The Dragoons. All mounted sets are scarce. The Dragoons came either in red or blue uniforms. However Dragoons were available in castings and some of them were not originally painted by Hall. Check their eyes if it's a white eye with a black dot in the center - it's most likely original painting of not it was probably painted by the third party.

I'm fortunate to have about 20 of his figures . . . all Scots with the exception of Jeklell (sp?) and Hyde (single figure, different face on each side). Those painted by the master himself have are much better done than those painted by an associate. You're right . . . they are exceptional.

Unfortunately, I did check out my KOSB men and the OTSN Dragoons, they appear to be painted by a 3rd party not only from the eye painting, but also the two original figures that I do have from him do have a "CH" logo faintly engraved on the bottom of the base. However, whoever painted the castings did an IMMACULATE job ! Quality of the detail is superb, bushy thick 'staches whereas the originals had rather thin ones. Still think they are collectible, esp. the mounted men...
