Yo Troopers, the latest update on Chas Stadden research. This would not have been possible without all the credit going to (trooper) he is just amazing on the history of such things, he sent me the Chas Stadden Catalogue from 1984 which list's 121 items from Chas Stadden studio's, then he sent on articles from magazines with adverts for later models, so to date we have a definate list of 142 models then there is a gap to 165 the QOH Drum Horse I have which is Buckingham Pewter made and Hallmarked & painted at Chas Studios, at the moment (and this is not wishful thinking) the Drum Horse seems to be a one off in painted Hallmarked pewter, guessing this to date around 1984/85. I cannot find any evidence that the flat base Chas Stadden signed in ink models were ever painted at the studios, it looks like Chas just sculptured the master molds for Tradition, then left to set up his own firm. I think it would be safe to say if you look at TKS site Staddendirect the model numbers up to 181 were made and Painted at Chas Studios. Then Andy Stadden tells me he made about 15 master molds for TKS, you can see the difference in the bases after No 181, BUT & a big BUT, the model numbers carry on forever IE: Number 286 British Infantryman IRAQ 2003 ?? made to look like Chas Models, but Chas left us in 2002 so it couldn't be one of his.
Then we have the Buckingham Pewter connection cannot work this one out, they issued all Chas models in High grade pewter & hallmarked in their own boxes, not Chas boxes with different bases on them, but they have long gone so cannot get any info there. But in 1984 there was an advert to the effect that Buckingham pewter London in conjunction with Fine Art Selections Ltd Perth Australia were producing a Australian Army Range of five models, three of which were Chas Stadden sculptures, now these three Chas models were never put out by him or TKS so he must have made them special for Buckingham. If any of you OZ guys live near Perth could you give a firm called Buckingham pewter a ring Phone 61-8-9240-7800 and ask did they buy out Buckingham Pewter in London and do they know anything about Chas Stadden models, I am sure there is a connection somwhere between them. I tried to download their site but for some reason it wont fully download.
Then in the late 1980s Chas Stadden Studios was sold to a firm called Burrell, they went to the wall in 1995 and was bought by TKS.
Its amazing guys one of the master sculpters from 30 years back and hardly any info on him at all. If any of you guys have any boxed Chas Models or know them to be genuine Chas items could you let me know to update my records. This forum has a tremendous amount of collective knowledge (BORG) lol so if you guys can find any tit bits in you old magazines can you pass the info on. (my head is done in trying to sort this out)
Bernard.
