My wife came home with a small gift for me today, a gift which is line with the economic belt tightening the banking mess has brought on. Now for the good news.

She bought this metal fence for $1 at Dollarama. They sell them for under-the-Christmas-Tree dioramas. In the first photo you see a close up of one link. Next you see the whole fence. And to give the fence a perspective, I've placed six figures from Marlborough in the foreground. It would look good with a marching band and a park scene.

Absolutely, that would work! Very 1900, it is.

Do you mean that the whole pack was a buck, or just is it a buck a section? And is the fence itself made of metal, or plastic, representing a metal fence?

Dollar stores are right up there with craft stores as hunting ground for people in our hobbies.

Great find, thanks for sharing it, prosit!

That is a gem. If only the soldiers were available at the Dollar stores:D

I work next to a dollarama :D :D :D I will have to pop in a see what they have and scoop me up a bunch of them. Perfect for my ceremonial displays of London :p

Brad, The whole fence you see in the photo, all five sections, is $1. That's about seventy-eight cents American as the Canadian dollar is a bit under the weather. Just a bad cold which will last a year or so.

I just went to check the fence. The posts are plastic, but the actual fence is very thin metal.

Tomorrow I'll post some stone fences I bought there last year for just a dollar.

Last week I bought my grandson a logging truck there for one buck and it's pretty well made. Sure it will break soon enough. He's an expert. He'll break the $20 truck for you too.:)

Just picked up 2 sets, that's all they had. For a buck you can't complain at all, they look nice. :)

I tried at a Dollar Tree store here in NH today but no luck. Perhaps only in Canada?

It is possible Randy as they are a Canadian company. I just looked at the packaging and it has the Dollarama stamp on it so maybe it is made exclusively for those stores. I can see if any other Dollar stores have some left if you needed some Randy.

Thanks, Russell, I'm going to look in our dollar stores here.

I see Randy has tried a Dollar Tree, with no luck. We have those down here, too. I don't think we have Dollaramas, but I haven't looked online for any info yet.

I recommend to everyone who's interested, look at WalMart, Target, etc, and at Michael's, AC Moore's, and other craft places, now is the time of the year when all of the Putz stuff is out, and we may find some really useful stuff.

I know I've seen some good trees at WalMart, that would fit very well for 54mm figures, and not just evergreens, but some good birches. Those would be very useful for anyone doing scenes in Eastern Europe, in northern Poland or East Prussia, for example, where birches thrive.

Prost!

Keep us posted Brad. It will be fun to see where you find them. Good hunting.

More cheap fences.
The first is a picket fence and must be about 16 inches long. This fence can be bent anywhere you like to make a 90 or a 45 degree corner. In the second photo I placed a few soldiers for perspective.

The 3rd photo shows a stone fence which I lightly painted with gray paint.

In the 4th photo the wall to the left is yellowish, the way it looked before I painted it.

Finally we see a fence of rough stone. Here I sanded off the 'snow finish' which I didn't want. The sanding has given it a weathered look.

I believe the stone fences were one length for a dollar but it might have been two pieces.

A good place to try other than a dollar store is Home Depot in the Christmas decoration section.

Hi Russel,

Just passed by one dollarama where there were like 40 of these fences packs... and I bought 3 of those for 3$ + 5% fed tax + 7.5% prov tax... hehehe... I love our government ... I love to pay taxes !!!

The post are plastics but the fences are metal so they can easily be bent.. torn appart... for any kind of situation..

So far, no luck here, but I've only been to Dollar Tree. They have a lot of Christmas stuff, but no Putz items at all.

Checking out more places this afternoon....

Only thing I've found so far has been the same or similar picket fencing as Russell posted above, by Lemax, sold at Michael's, I think it was around $5 for a package of fencing. Nice tree sets, too, pines in various sizes, and birches and sycamores (though both of those without foliage).

More hunting...
