Every Year I come across to John's fine work focusing on the West. Most our glossy. He's not on the Internet but can be reached at: 440-247-6823. He's located in Chagrin Falls, OH.

What do you think?

Carlos,

I think his stuff is very nice and, to be honest, I don't remember seeing it before. Didn't he have an affiliation with Figarti?

I remember Rick and Mr. Updyke introducing this item, maybe in 2007 or 2008.

I have seen some of this stuff before I am sure. That chuck wagon is Andreas no?

Either way it is all very nice. I would love to see one of the manufacturers do a streets of the wild west series.

Treefrog still has the Stagecoach in stock (under Figarti).

Check out Sarum at www.sarumsoldiers.net and look at his Wild West series.

I first became aware of John back in the 80's when I picked up a copy of Campaigns Nov./Dec. 1976 number seven. In it I got to see an advertisement of his which featured a photo of his Pvt. Hook & Zulu kits. Ordering them along with others. which I've featured my painted figures of them here on the forum. I noticed at the time that he been making the series in the mid 70's along with a many other periods in various scales. He also provided an outstanding series of figures related to Custers 7th and the Sioux with both mounted and unmounted of the 7th an some outstanding mounted Sioux. John's been a master of his craft from way back when an you'll note he hasn't lost his touch what so ever today. Thanks Carlos for the time spents taking and sharing the photos of his work.......The Lt.

Back in the mid to late 80's, the Hackensack show was predominatly plastic and at that time I was collecting anything to do with the F&I war or any Eastern Woodland Indians. I passed a table and saw a small set of glossy metal indians, the feature figure was of a Mohawk brave about to brain a buxom. white, female captive. I bought the set, about 6 figures, inquired about the maker/painter and was told it was John Updyke. I contacted Mr.Updyke a few days later to see if I could order more. He said no problem and that I could order them painted to my specs (color of breech-cloth, etc.) About a week later, the figures arrived with a very nice note included. They still display proud in my collection.....

I contacted John about maybe a year ago to inquire if he was still making the Zulu War and several other "British" figures that were from his production in the 70-80's. He sent me a list, but he only sells them now already painted. :(

I wanted them in kit form because I would rather paint them myself. :D

IIRC the figures were rather pricy already painted. Oh well!

my wife bought the Squaw with Papoose at the show- and couldn't help herself...she had me go over and buy his Indian hunter with the deer carcass over his shoulder- to complimnet her figure!
wow- cool figures
double wow the Mrs has started her own collection......wow!
