Hola Everyone

As I have not spent much time in the grand metropolis of Shaumburg IL, I am wondering if anyone knows if you can catch the "L" or any type of public trans besides a cab if wanted to go to downtown Chicago. Im guessing that Im going to be renting a car or shelling out for a cab.

There is a metro bus station about 3 blocks from the Hyatt. I don,t know for sure if it goes to downtown Chicago. I,m pretty sure the L does not go to Schaumburg.
The above bus station is next to the Drury Inn where I stay every year and I walk to the Hyatt.
I believe Schaumburg is about 25 miles from downtown, that would be an expensive cab ride,

From what I hear there are so many dealers I won't have time to go anywhere. There is that Medieval times in Schaumburg nearby.

It's probably not too early to start thinking about planning for Chicago. Here is some basic info.

The link for the Chicago Show website, http://www.toysoldiershow.com

The show itself is Sunday, September 23, 2007. However, people usually arrive a few days early for the room trading and some people have been known to leave even before the show itself because they've spent all their money.

The show will be held at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield, 1800 East Golf Road in Schaumberg. That's also where you want to stay. When you call, you should mention you're coming for the show and you'll get a special show rate. The phone number is 847 605 1234.

I would recommend getting a cab ride to and from the airport. I used a service called My Chauffeur. The number is 800 244 6200. It's probably around $25 or $30 each way. Trust me, you won't need a car. You'll be too busy.

Thanks everyone for the input. I booked my flight and room today. As far as getting around in the Windy City I think Im going to have to break down and rent a car. Lucky for me I have to bring the wife along(yeah great) and Im sure Im going to learn the hard way that bringing her to an event like this is going to be like packing a sandwich to an all you can eat buffet. Im pretty sure she cant live, breathe, eat toy soldiers 24 hours a day for 4 days straight like most of the people on here.

Ah Chris,
But you forget the second largest indoor mall in America, Woodfield Mall is right across the street. There are also shuttles to Ikea and lots of fun places to go out to eat. There is plenty for those who tag along with the collectors to find and do.
I'll bet she'll have fun. If she gets bored send her up to Shed Aquarium or the Field Museum. There's plenty of other things to do besides check out the show.

Yes, looks like I'll be renting a car. Ive been to Chicago many times but never to the suburb areas. I'll have to check out the Shedd or the Green Mill Jazz bar. If I get daring maybe I'll head to the South side and look for artifacts of Cominsky Park. Should be a good time none the less. Hope to see you all there.

Let me second what has been said above, you will not have time to do anything but go from room to room the days before the show, you won,t want to leave the Hyatt.
As for your wife, I bring mine every year and and that mall will keep her busy for days.
Later on, when it gets closer to the show get a hold of me, since I have a car up there, maybe my wife can pick up yours and she can show her around all the other shopping areas in the area.

It's only March but it's probably not too early to start thinking about making reservations. I just made mine and will be arriving on Thursday, September 20. There's a special toy soldier rate of $105 per night.

Don't wait too long as it gets filled fast.

I will be bedding down at my son's apartment in Schaumberg. Does Amtrak go anywhere near there? Wife will not fly and I am in no mood to drive 13 hours....Michael

Michael,

Why don't you send Brian (warbuff26) a pm. He lives in Chicago and should know the answer.

Amtrak lets off at Union Station in the city. From there you can always hop on the Metra which will take you out to Schaumburg. If anyone just wanted to go into the city from Schaumburg the Metra is your best bet if you didn’t want the hassle of renting a car. However, If you wish to rent a car you can do so at the Hyatt...I believe it is Hertz that rents right out of the hotel.

I now live in Bolingbrook, 30 min from the Hotel, and would be willing to rent my 2 spare bedrooms at a decent rate! :D

If you have questions about the area please feel free to contact me. I do enjoy the fact that I live so close to this show...I never have to worry about buying too much and how do I get it home!
