The Devil-Ship Pirates / The Pirates of Blood River (1962)

I watched these two from NETFLIX. Not great but fun. Basically the same plot. Look for a non-speaking Oliver Reed in the Pirates Of Blood River.

Lee shows up in a number of films as a swordsman including Horatio Hornblower and the 3 Musketeer films.

"Pirate adventures abound in this pair of Christopher Lee (films) by action writer Jimmy Sangster. In The Devil-Ship Pirates, a band of pirates shores up in Britain due to vessel trouble and convinces the local village that they've defeated the English fleet and are now in charge. In The Pirates of Blood River, a man is in exile at a penal colony which gets invaded by pirates, who demand to be led to the man's own town in search of treasure."

Christopher Lee also played a swordsman in the excellent 1973 version of "The Three Musketeers". He played Rochefort, the Cardinal's ally and enforcer, opposite Michael York's D'Artagnan.

Prost!

Yes I think that is what Scott meant by the # Musketeer films. There were two actually; broken into two because there was way too much film for one. I really like those two and consider them the closest yet to Dumas' classic.

They were two awesome movies. They had a great mix of action and humor.

Indeed, and the actors were perfect for their roles: Lee, Charleton Heston, Oliver Reed, Frank Finley, Richard Chamberlain, Faye Dunaway, Geraldine Chaplin, Simon Ward, Spike Milligan and Jean-Pierre Casel were all great and even Michael York and Raquel Welsh were suprisingly good. I would love to see a Blu-ray edition but I have little hope.

Two of the best IMO. The humor and swordplay were great. -- Al

I am a huge Oliver Reed fan. I really liked his roles in the Musketeer movies, Lion of the Desert and Gladiator. I have friends that live in Sussex and I have heard a lot about his personal demons. His acting was great though.

Duh! That's what I get for multitasking, I glanced right past his reference.

As am I. In addition to those favorites, I liked him in Assassination Bureau and Crossed Swords. Pity he declined roles in The Sting and Jaws. He also narrowly missed succeeding Sir Sean as James Bond. Now that would have been interesting to see.

It is hard to find, but Mr. Reed also played an Indian in The Great Scout and Cathouse Thursday. It was a comedy set in Montana in 1908. The movie also had Lee Marvin, Robert Culp, Elizabeth Ashley, Strother Martin and Kay Lenz. It was a fun waste of a couple of hours. The movie is on hulu.com.

LOL, that is right.:D Boy I had forgotten about that one. I haven't seen it in quite a few years but I remember it was worth a few laughs.

Great posters. Like I said earlier, hulu.com has this movie available for steaming. I watched it a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't as hilarious as I remembered, but still fun. It also was kind of interesting in that it had references to the election campaign between William Howard Taft and William Jennings Bryan.
