On the evening of the 7th August, the 7th Wellington Battalion, led by Lt Col William Malone captured the heights of
Chunuk Bair, earlier in the day the 3rd Auckland Battalion and 2nd Canterbury Battalion were virtually wiped out
attempting to take the heights.
August the 8th, the 7th Wellingtons defended the hill against all Turkish assaults, unfortunately Lt Col Malone was
killed by friendly fire at approx 1700 hrs, the Battalion was ordered off the hill, but stayed, eventually at 1900 hrs
they were once again ordered off the hill, and were relieved.
Of the 760 Wellingtons, 60 came off the hill.
The chap kneeling reloading his rifle is, Major, later Brigadier, DSO, MC and Bar, Gallipoli, Somme, Messines,
Passchendaele, Bapaume, Le Quesnoy, my Grandfather.
This is the smallest diorama I have made, but has the most significance for me.

Excellent work! A small diorama but big on activity.

Fantastic diorama on the battle. Thanks for sharing your part of this history. For me "The Nek" is an interesting battle, one sided off course.

Cheers,
Grey

Your family's personal connection to this moment in history gives your dio quite a compelling effect.

I love the book that is placed underneath too. Great overall presentation!!

Thanks for sharing!
