Civil War Cabin (1 Viewer)

Wow, great work Shiloh. A very nice, rustic look to them. Well done.

Wow, that is fantastic! Is it 54mm scale?

What were your materials?

Prost!

Very nice work Shiloh, however don't be too hasty about thinking there isn't anything...or won't soon be something out there

Thanks Shannon that is very cool, it must be John Jenkin's frontier cabin to go with his stockade and blockhouse. A very nice product but not a great fit for ACW. Just as Britains senics are more for the eastern theater featuring stone and milled painted lumber some just don't quite work in the western theater. But the vast majority of ACW folks collect eastern theater stuff.

As I said before suberb house, I love the roof.

Cheers.

Hi Brad yep 1/32 scale or 3/8 inch to the foot. The logs are sticks from my front yard and the rest is railroad scale lumber. The cedar shakes were cut down to scale.

Thanks, Shiloh!

The yard is the scratchbuilder's friend, isn't it? I save the rootlets from things I have to dig out of the ground, and dry them for use in 54mm scenery. And I use wooden coffee stirring sticks for clapboards in 1/48th scale, or for planks in 54mm.

Most excellent work, I'm impressed!

Prost!

A really beautiful cabin Shiloh. What did you stuff in between the log walls of the cabin to finish off the walls? And how much time did it take, I wonder.

There is some stuff out there that can be bought. For example I have this cabin from Barzo Playsets. It sells for around $20, and is made of styrofoam. there's also a log barn for around the same price.
See http://www.barzso.com/home.html

I tried to post of photo of the Barzo cabin but obviously did not succeed. I'll read the instructions and try again.

Hi Russel those things are rare now. I was going to get one and couldn't find any. I had plans to use it for dimensions on the doors and windows plus they are just cool.

Once again Shiloh nice work. Hey Baron, I've been trying to find wooden coffee stir sticks and havent had any luck. Where are you finding them?

Captain, I use sticks that look like popcicle sticks but which are longer and thinner. I buy them at Dollarama , a chain of stores where everything costs a dollar. I don’t know if they exist where you are. In a dollar bag you get a whole bunch, maybe a hundred.

Thanks Russell, I'll check some of those stores out but we don't have that particular name of a dollar store here.
