I just got me club set 12. I love the figure and in fact he looks like he could stand in for the regular British artillery crew.

Then I noticed the small amount of flocking or static grass glued to the stands.

If the bases were not sculpted with detailed leaves and sticks I guess I could see adding them. It has been six years and none of the sets have flocking added to them.

Why the change? Did I miss a poll? Am I the only one who does not like this new look of the bases?

The photos of the figure painted does not show the flocking well on the base, but it is there if you zoom way in.

I don't like it at all. To my eye it cheapens the figure.

It is really going to give me pause if the new FIW sets released all have this new flocking. Half my PoA sets will not have flock (being the original sets) and then the new ones will? It is going to look dumb.

Yes I said dumb. I did not like the snow look on the Prussian figure bases, but I can understand it. Plus that is a new series, not a continuation of an existing range.

Now these are just my thoughts, and I am sorry for the rant. I just really don't like this new type of base.

Matthew, the Austrians at the Battle of Leuthen seem to have no snow (just flock) on the base, behind the wall it has not snowed!?!

I did not notice this either. Now that makes no sense. It snowed there. The Prusians are in snow, so too should the Austrians have snow on their bases.

But the questions is, do you like the new look to the bases?

I do like very much the new flocked bases .. and will get these Austrians even though I passed on the beautiful Prussian grenadiers. Now if JJD were to offer the same Prussians on flocked bases, I will get them all too. {sm4}

IMHO the flocked bases offer greater versatility for collectors who may wish to dio different battles or battles together with troops by other makers.

OD,

A fair reply regarding what others may wish to do. I think especially true since I seem to be the only one who does not like the flocking. I am not wild about the all white bases of the Prusian sets, but I bought them because they are the best on the market.

The bases get covered over during a photo shoot, but I don't get to do too many of those anymore. So they sit on my shelves for me to look at.

It was more a shock that everything is now going to this look. Or so I am given to believe based upon the new images of what is to come.

I just wanted to know if I missed an announcement. There was a lot of talk about the white stands of the bases long before they were released. I did not see any talk about flocked bases for all the new sets coming out, in what looks to be for every range.

So it is just me, one person who does not like it.

I have and several personal emails blasting me for my opinion so I think I will just be quiet from now on. It is almost midnight here and I should turn in.

Matthew,

It would not be fair to 'blast' you for an opinion. People do have different opinions after all .. but we do seem to agree that JJD's Prussian grenadiers are great looking. Keep well.
