I think I may have found a new tagline- Coach Chris instead of Currahee Chris...

My daughter's soccer coach canceled practice yesterday so I volunteered- had a good time mustering the younglings (age 5-6). Not sure what I was doing- I was a football (American) and wrestling guy- soccer was something we did in gym class.

Anyway, she was really jazzed and worked twice as hard. She has scored 18 goals in 5 games- just dominates the field. I love watching her tear down the field, she is so amazing and at times just looks supernatural (boy do I sound like a biased father!!!:D).

Kind of scares me that girl, she loves country music- especially "8th of November" "American Soldier" those kinds of songs. She is learning all about the 173rd airborne (the unit they sing about in 8th of November). She has even mastered the monkey bars- goes back and forth on them- looks like a little red headed ranger!! HOAAH!!!

I showed her my Normandy village post here on TF. She liked all the Napoleonics way more than mine. Figure'd I'd get some home field advantage with that one but no love- when I asked her why she responded "cause there's horses.":D

Sorry for all the personal info, just kind of scared- there is no doubt in my mind this one will be in Army Greens and will carryon our family tradition. I always get a little emotional this time of the year- a few more days and it will be the 4 year anniversary of one of my bros passing in Iraq- 31 year old father of three. I just can't help but feel guilty. I can't imagine what it was like for the guys who had to fight WW2, Korea or Nam. I just wouldn't have been tough enough.....

All the Guiness and Jagermeister can't take that feeling away. Just gotta keep trucking. When I go to work, I wear my American Flag tie to work to commemerate it. Funny thing is no one asks why anymore, sometimes I don't think people even realize I am wearing it.

Hi Chris

Amen Brother! I have lost a few friends both in the Attack on the Pentagon and over in Iraq, I think of them often. Raise a glass for your friend and he'll appreciate it!

As for your munchkin tearing up the field go dad go! My kids are a blast to watch too! My son scored two goals in his last game and was really excited about it he makes me very proud too! My little girl is just like her mom when it comes to soccer she tears up the field in a big way! Great fun to watch and even more fun to coach when you can.

All the best

Dave

Chris, each new generation brings hope for the previous one. My prayers are for them. That they will know peace. I have a grandson who just turned a year old. My daughter graduates from high school and says she is going to Indianna? Life goes on but we remember do we not? My prayers will go out for you friend.

your a brave man ,I helped coach my boys team for the last couple
of years.Nothing like chasing 8 year old boys out of the sand dunes
next to the field they practice on after a day at work :D.
I think sometimes I should have left the footy boots at home and bought a whip and chair.

Thanks for all the kinds words and sorry for the "depressing" tone- was having an off day....

Well, this may be perhaps my new sports calling- A buddy of mine coached my daughter last year and wants me to come on full time for the 6-7 year olds in the fall!! THey are a pretty disciplined lot for the age group- you have one who has the occasional synaptic misfire and will just start running off in the opposite direction, kick at the sky or stand around picking their nose.

No doubt I am in for the ride of my life here. The soccer games remind me of rugby at this age- there is a mass of kids that plow through from corner to corner and someone eventually rolls over the other kids and scores.
