While this is a great time to collect Ancient Romans and their adversaries there are some serious considerations for collectors.
Of course we are all free to pick and choose our armies and use our imaginations to mix and match.
Many of us have both financial and space constraints so choosing a series, battle or time period comes into focus.
With most of the major makers offering Ancient Romans and their enemies choices are considerable and exciting.
K&C, First Legion, John Jenkins, Thomas Gunn and The Collector's Showcase all have their products and will keep
expanding. For glossy collectors Regal/Soldiers of the World offers a very expansive range albeit armies of the Republic
along with Gauls/Celts.
At the Chicago show JJD unveiled their Roman Cavalry, Spartacus and fortifications that resemble those at the famous
battle of Alesia fought in 52BC.
Now my dilemma comes down to collecting both Imperial and Republican Romans or concentrating on just one time frame.
First Legion produces both periods but most of their enemies of Rome seem to fit with the Republican period.
If I want to build a diorama of the Siege of Alesia with JJD's upcoming fortifications I can use First Legion and JJD's Gauls.
For the Imperial Romans that K&C, TG, FL and TCS provide there is a shortage of adversaries right now. British Celts, Dacians,
Parthians, Jewish Rebels and others will hopefully appear in the near future.
I also believe there is a chance that JJD may offer Republican Romans with their bronze Montefortino helmets, mail shirt, oval
shields and Spanis swords. They would go great with the new Gauls and the fortifications.
For now I collect all the makers but soon enough I may have to specialize.......Caesar's campaigns do intrigue me but the Imperial
Romans look great.
I guess this should be my worst problem!!!
