Hi Evilchuck,

I think you have correctly identified your experience: it is truly a collectors nightmare! I know you must be sick at your loss and the experience with your insurance company is far from helpful. You have my complete sympathy.

Your story sends chills up my spine as I will soon be finishing a room in my basement that will largely be devoted to my toy soldier collection. I hope I never have to face the severe disappointment an experience like yours would surely bring.

I wish you the greatest possible luck with your salvage job. Hang in there!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Chuck,

I'm so sorry! The storm blew down an apple tree in our yard and did about $1,300 worth of damage/cleanup costs, but nothing compared to what happened to you. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Sorry to hear about all that Chuck, it really is a nightmare. Best of luck with the insurance company , I hope it works out.

Chuck,

I was wincing whilst reading your post. Really sorry to hear of the damage to your home and collection. I hope at least some is salvagable and wish you well on the insurance front.

Simon

Chuck,

I just talked to Louis and he told me. Words fail me at your incalculable loss. I wish there was something I could do.

It's a small consolation but at least you'll have that War Bird to look forward to.

Best regards,

I am sorry about any possible loss to your hobby stuff....your experiance ought give us collectors pause to think about picking up insurence, specific to our collections worth....The toy train guys have it available and since the big insurence guys like collecting premiums and not paying out benefits, sometimes it becomes our only aid. Also, not being a lawyer, the flood was not an act of God....the rain was but the flodd was an act of negligence by whoever did not open the gates....I think you have a good case vs the insurence company as well as local officials on this one........Michael

I am truly sorry to hear about your problem. That is typical of insurance companies
Regards
Damian

Chuck,
I'm really sorry to hear what's happened. Hope you manage to salvage what you can and the insurance pays out.
Your story's got me twitching now cos my entire toy soldier and AFV collection is presently packed inside a 20-ft container along with all our household goods and is being loaded onto a ship later today. The thought of loosing all that lot is going to be permanently in the back of my mind now until I hear the ship's docked and I have that collection in my possession again.

Evilchuck, that SUX, I often wondered how people in simular conditions cope with these things. I guess you just thank God it was not a family member or animal and move on. When I see the devastation of hurricanes and tornados, I some times wonder if any of those people are toy soldier collectors. I wish you and all the nieghbors around you the best, the photos are more important than the figs. Good luck, God Bless, Mike:)

I am so sorry to hear what happened to you. There may be techniques to restore some of the damaged items. They now can do miracles restoring photographs that seem to be damaged beyond repair. There are also ways of salvaging water-logged paper (freeze drying?). You could do a Google search to find companies that specialize in restorations of this sort. I hesitate to mention that you could also ask your insurance company for recommendations, but it may be worth a try. Good luck!

Ack! How awful! I can't even begin to imagine 7 1/2 feet of water in a basement.
What a disaster! One small consolation is we are still holding your last order safe and sound for you. And you can probably get replacement boxes for your K&C. Good luck with all your cleanup work and I hope your dealings with the insurance agents go well.
All the best,

What a horrendous thing to take place . It’s hard to deal with and then like you said there’s the insurance company. I hope you are able to recover some of your items.

Bests of Luck

I can only echo the comments already made before me. I would tend to agree with Maddicus on the culpability. Good luck on the clean up.

Chuck,

Give me a call. I am not without experience dealing with Insurance Companies, and I owe you one - that little get out of jail free card you gave me worked when I was pulled over for the first time since lawschool, for, of all things, talking on my cell phone.
