I recently purchased 600. SS-Fallschirmjägerbatallion set and it is very well done (Even their face xpressions are nicely done). One of the reasons i purschased the set is because of the units history.
600. SS-Fallschirmjägerbatallion, has a very interesting history. It was Waffen-SS penal unit trained in parachuting so it can fight "suicide" missions behind enemy lines (Around 50% of its soldiers volunteered to join to avoid court martial).
SS-Fallschirmjäger-Btl 500. was created after the Great Sasso Raid in 1943 and it's most famous mission (and only major one) was called Operation Knight’s leap (Unternehmen Rösselsprung), a daring assault on headquarters of Yugoslavian partisans leader Tito. The raid was unsuccessful and they suffered over 90% casualties.
After being flown to Russia to fight more, they were flown back to Austria to join newly formed 600. SS-Fallschirmjägerbatallion. They never fought in France, but in December of 1944 were attached to Panzerbrigade 150 for the Ardennes Offensive. They finally surrendered in early may 1945. The battalion was virtually wiped out three times in its eighteen-month existence.
