First, I am not into collecting any of my soldiers for the bucks. But I must admit that I have found myself buying bargain figures for resale to finance my future soldier purchases. Since I have started to do this, none of my disposable income is touched for my toys. Is it unseemly to ask the heavy collectors to speculate in advance what might be a homerun K/C piece upon retirement.? Would a separate category for such prognostications be appropriate ? Obviously, no one would be held accountable by my wife for their opinion...Yes dear, I will get off the forum now, please don't beat me again........Respectfully, Maddadicus-Michael

What you have discovered is not new. I would wager that many of us do the same thing. If we are not, then we are selling various sets as we tire of them or find a greater use for the money that they represent, i.e. more recent releases, etc. I don't find any problem at all with doing this. It is a capitalistic economic system and we are free to buy and sell, as long as it is not on some list of illegal items. I have found that by doing this, I have more soldiers. Michael

I have reservations about having such a category or a forum because you're in effect giving investment advice and you're institutionalizing it. Others, not just members, are looking and saying "oh yeah, so and so says I should buy this piece" and then when that piece does nothing or not as well they had hoped, they'll get angry and since we do live in a very litigous society, who can say they won't sue. An occasional thread is no big deal but to have a specific forum is not something I'm sure about.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I had not realized what the implications of a category like that would entail.

It looks as if you buy any Strictly Limited or special editions they may increase in value quicker than a recently retired item. The best bet is to buy what you like and if it increases, all the better. K&C lets us know in advance what is going to retire, so you can plan your purchases that way. If you see an item you like and it is going to be retired, then you should grab it before it sells out and starts to increase. It may take some time for items to increase enough to bother with buying and storing them.

In all seriousness, the best approach is just to collect for the self pleasure. In time you develop a instictive feel for what will become highly sought after pieces upon retirement, and then decide to pickup a couple of the same set. One for future resale. If your wrong, you'll at least recover your original cost. I have yet to see a set go for less than its original cost upon resale.

Enjoy what you do, the more information you gather the better prepaired you

become. Make yourself an expert, and it may give you a little edge.

My definition of an expert is a person that knows where to obtain the

information required for a sepecific task.
