Well, yesterday I had the chance to watch the final gold medal game between the USA and Spain, the Olympic final of my absolutely favourite sport, basketball. What a game! Spain really gave the US a game, the sport is becoming more and more global and other teams besides the USA can play great and win against the US. Yes the USA were the favourites but I alway felt this would be their biggest test, after following the Olympic tournament and especially my favourites, the USA. An upset might have happenned and I am glad we finally saw the USA under pressure and having to grind out their best. The Gasol brothers and Navarro were oustanding for Spain, I just didn't like some hard intentional fouling on Chris Paul and Durant. Paul especially didn't get intimidated and was clutch at key moments. A great basketball show all round.
The NBA stars and the USA basketball programme deserve a lot of praise. These American players have really brought out their best for their country and I really enjoy the magnificent way they play, irrespective of their nationality. All of them contributed unselfishly to their team, they were nothing like the spoiled prima donnas some want us to believe they are. Love, Williams and Anthony were special. But on a higher level, on a supremely gifted level, I would underline Chris Paul (fantastic experienced fearless tough point guard), LeBron James (the more I see him play the more I like his playing, the more I hear detractors the more I like him, the more he is detracted the better he plays, yes he is a giant player wether you like it or not), Kobe Bryant (the black mamba really turned on his outstanding right stuff when the knockout stages started) and finally Kevin Durant (mister best scorer, mister trey, you name it, he does it best...).
Kevin Durant (30 decisive points yesterday) to me deserves a special mention. His talent, his seemingly effortless elegant talent looks unlimited. If you foul him like Spain did, he'll go to the line and make you pay, he sinks free throws like he is having a cup of tea... He runs, he defends, he dunks and hits treys, he is the real deal. I really like the joy he puts into his game. Watch him play for the US. See his joy on the stand when receiving the gold medal and listening to the USA national anthem. Feel the positive feelings and vibrations coming out of this man. He has fun playing and dealing with the pressure to do more. He shrugs off all negativity and reacts maturely and positively to excessive agressiveness and fouling: he just plays better, he outplays you. This 23 year old World and Olympic basketball champion will become the best player in the world. And he looks like a great likeable personality. I want to follow his career for many years.
Sorry if this is too long but, as they say, I LOVE THIS GAME!
