Angel Oniria, a Spanish wargame painter, is a new member of the Victorian Wars Forum that I belong to. His painting of 28mm figures and other wargame sizes is at the level of the highest connoisseur style figure painting. He is currently working on doing vignettes for the Battle of Maiwand of the 2nd Afghan War and eventually will be doing the Sudan using Perry Miniatures. I am posting some examples of his work which feature Napoleonics by Perry and some other companies. The last photo is to show you the scale at which he is working.

Here is a link to his website:

Outstanding! The closeups look like figures in much larger scale, which makes his work that much more incredible. Very well done! Thanks for sharing the photos and link with us, Randy!

Prost!

 Very nice indeed, what skill !! The 4th photo looks as though it could be a painting. Beautiful

These vignettes certainly allow plenty of room for displaying them.
I would think it must require high-power magnification to paint at that scale.

Hi Randy,

That is some of the most remarkable painting I have ever seen on such small figures! Thanks for sharing the photos with us!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Considering the size of these figures, this is all the more remarkable. I assume painters who paint at that scale must use magnifying glasses or something like that. I'm sure I would go blind.

There are figure painters, there are great figure painters, there are incredible figure painters................and then there is Angel.

He's quite a famous painter in the wargaming community, world class as a matter of fact.

Between the discovery of the work of Paul Darnell and now Angel, perhaps now you guys can see why I am so drawn to the smaller scale stuff.....................................

Yes with work at that level it is easy to see that. Actually, if you added backdrops, any of the first 4 could be taken for paintings. All I can add is WOW.;)

I'm with you guys,
Beautiful figures are great no matter what size but mini's like this really grab my imagination, I remember when GHQ first introduced 1/285th scale, I was totally taken by the really striking detail. On his site the Wehrmacht troops marching next to the horse towed gun and captives in the church are outstanding as well.
