Hello,

This will be my first post so here goes. I'm attempting to post a few pics of a Conte ACW Union casualty that I re-painted in a more artsy style. Hope you all enjoy the fig. I'm working on completing his comrades when the time presents itself.

Welcome aboard and looking forward to seeing his comrade.....The Lt.

Welcome to the forum, and nicely done!

What paints did you use, and can you tell us more about your technique?

If you're thinking about doing more in matte, may I suggest adding some washes to help pop the details, for example, adding a little burnt siena (or just a light brown), thinned down, in the recesses between the fingers, and on the face, at the neckline, etc. I do the same thing with my scale figures, to help accent the molded-on details. You can do the same on the uniform area, too, with the folds in the cloth, washing a little darker shade, to accent shadows.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the vignette with his comrades!

Prost!
Brad

Thanks to everyone who posted for the warm welcome to the forum. To answer the question on paints, I use hobby store acrylics, such as Folk Art, Apple Barrel, Delta Ceram Coat and the like. Nothing too fancy.

Great work. I use those brands as well. May I suggest that the knapsack body wears more to blacks and greys than brown as it's painted canvas.

Your face work is great with the open eyes rather than a grimace.

Hi, Shane, I use craft store acrylics, too, along with paints from the industry manufacturers like Tamiya, Testor/Model Master, etc. I like the price on craft store paints, and for many applications, they work just as well as Vallejo or Andrea.

Prost!

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the helpful tip. I didn't know if the knapsack was made of leather or canvas or what, so I went with the brown undercoat. I'll re-equip him and his buddies with grey undercoated knapsacks and see how they turn out.

Hi Brad,

The convenience factor is what does it for me. Its nice to be able to just run down to the local hobby store and pick up what you need instead of having to wait on the more "industry specific" brands to arrive via internet purchase. I also like to be able to pop the top and compare the different pigments in person.

Hello,

I recently finished Conte Union comrade #1 to go along with the Casualty re-paint. Both have been upgraded with new and improved grey undercoated, canvas knapsacks and some dirt and grime on trousers, tunic and kit. I've still got 4 more Conte Yanks to go and a recently added Britains re-enforcement.

Here are some pics of comrade #2 with ACW Casualty and comrade #1. Thanks for looking. : )

Hello,

I picked up a few things this week. One of which was a set of Conte's Lions of Round Top featuring Joshua Chamberlain. This Confederate officer is the first completed re-paint figure that will eventually go into a diorama along with the rest of the figures from the set. I added a few extra details to the uniform to make him a little more interesting. The original figure (as depicted from the painting) had a plain grey coat and trousers. I decided to give him some khaki pants and add the infantry officer's light blue collar and cuffs.
