I had some of the Conte Romans and thought they were good.I had ACW,Ranger and Viking sets and thought they were good.I've heard some opinions that the paint jobs aren't that good on some of his ranges but why would that be?He gets his painted in China like just about all of the toy soldier companies. Can somebody answer that.
Mark

John if I had the space as well as the $$$$$ I'd have collected the entire series. As for the painting of the figures I find no fault with them. Those who've commented on painting of the Conte figures prefered the K & C look. Here's my one and only contribution and he plays well as a hand to hand set with the following figure........The Lt.

It is a matter of perspective really. If you like K&C and Britains and Frontline ACW for instance. The way that the Conte is a completely different style. They use a stain or inks for a large part of the shadowing giving a very grimy look.

Would you say that is true for all their releases or more the older ones. I did pickup some of these Romans and while I thought they were nice, to me they were not as nicely sculpted or painted as the Spartans or Persians.

They seemed to have used less of it in the Spartans. Did not look at the Romans. But the Viking stuff is certainly dark.

Thanks to Mr. Mark (Marco55), I can add these figures in to the fray:

Mark- I am sure you can see that I got the pilum repaired but alas, our poor Legionaire's luck hasn't changed and is still getting the worst of it here- Vorenus should have told Pullo that charging a group of angry Gauls was a bad idea.

Nice pictures Chris: I enjoy the ship and the wild woman figure. Leadmen

Thanks fellas-

John- that is one of Barszo's little buildings there isn't it??

If EoI weren't releasing their Romans, I'd be buying up several of the Conte ones myself. I think they, aside from the Russians of course, are the best Roman figures out there. I am really excited to see what Blackhawk does with Zama later this year- they did a really good job with the Custer figures so I hope that carries over with their Romans.

Yes Chris, that is parts from Barzo's Tripoli set. I also got some Ticonderoga fort parts. I use to get the whole playsets but the last few years I get "bits and pieces" to enjoy. I was running out of room. John

I have posted these before - but here is my CONTE ROMANS AGAIN !! :D

Nice photo's Ron of your Romans. You been holding out. I only thought you were a K&C collector only.:D Remember my pirate gallow-- I think we used it to hang you know who and his horse.:D My wife made me move it to a basement case. She said the "hanging guy" bothered her. Conte does make some wild women figures also. John

Very cool Ron-
it's neat to see the two different companies figures together like that- the KC shields do look much more impressive that way.

The one thing about both companies is that it seems like they wanted the "barbarians" to win in their sets- I of course, want the Romans. It seems like the sets were sort of geared towards Teutoburg (which KC cannot be, as Caesar was long gone by then).

John- I really dig Barzso's buildings. I am going to buy up a bunch of the Tripoli buildings here in the coming months to dress out my Iraq/Afghanistan modern dioramas. I also like that Hacienda building he did- I think that could work really well too.

Thanks Guys

I actually had to put my ROMAN CALVARY from Conte - just didnt have the room to display them - I kept one guy in there which you can see below.

I want to do a Roman Civil War diorama where I will pit King & Country Romans against Conte Romans - it will look cool I think

Ah - but, that is for another day
