Conte Zulus (2 Viewers)

There are four new Conte Sets of the 24th on ebay now.
The new releases make their debut on ebay, no kidding.

And they are up for bidding, not a "buy it now" option!
Guess, the starting bid is the retail price.
Well, it will be interesting to see how much it will be worth for collectors to get these new releases?

Michael like you I was curious so I email Richard and ask him about the Ebay auction of the 4 new Zulu War sets and here's his reply.

Dear Joe
No mysteries here. You might let others know,

(a) Preorders: Those who have preorder the prices for ordering direct from us will be at or below the starting price listed on ebay and will contain a surprise present and so I hope no one gets carried away and bids these sets up to some crazy level. If the price starts getting too high we would probably end the auction as we want no on to get "hurt".

(b) Conteco will be selling and shipping similar sets "BEFORE" these auctions end and shipped so no one is getting them sooner or less expenssively on eBay that they can buy directly from us.

(c) Placing the sets on Ebay is important to us to reach a collector audience in foreign countries where no dealers exist. In the past year we've acquired over a hundred direct Conte buyers who first became aware of us on Ebay and who had never heard of us before and probably never would have learned of us had it not been for Ebay.

(d) The main benefit of Conte putting sets on Ebay is the promotion to audiences other than the toy soldier community.

(e) We hope to be shipping this week to our customers who preorder and/or contacting them for payment details & approval.

(f) Ebay is intended by us to reach the many Zulu fans who might not be in the toy soldier loop and I know these sets are causing alot of excitement but the best plan is for collectors to remain calm and go about buying them in the normal way.

As an "advertising medium"...it makes sense...

I can see that...

Ensuring the price being the same or below the starting bid...

would relieve some tension as a collector too I think...

At first I was thought I would be upset that the Ebayer would get his first...

but if he is ready to ship preorders at the same time...

I don't think anyone is being slighted...

Perhaps not that strange after all.

Inexpensive advertising to be sure.
At least the really cool sets are not on ebay.

If Conte is using ebay as an advertising tool he ceratinly is going about it the wrong way.
His userid should be "ConteCollectibles" not "beaugestcollectibles" or whatever it is he is using.
Also he should set up an ebay AboutMe page which is FREE and can be named, guess what, "Conte Collectibles". His website is not even mentioned in the description of the product. If it is, then it is pretty buried in there some where.
If I was not familiar with his items I would assume this is some one off dealer or something.
Just my 2 cents of course.

I agree with you on that but I think it is part of eBays policy not to allow advertising of companies.

I would just wonder why they are not for sale on his on-line store except as pre-orders.

It sounds like a smart idea, to use ebay for advertising. Don't forget, there are a lot of gotta have them yesterday people who are willing to pay a higher price, just to get their hands on something first. Sounds like good business sense to me.:)
