Hi! I'm going to build Airfix Wasa ship. I want to have som crew also, but it is hard to find. The scale don't have to be exactly right, but near.

Since the sailors in Sweden didn't have any uniforms as I understand, it will do with some civilians also.

The style is something like a 17 -1800 century civilian I think. Trousers that reach the knees and some kind of cap perhaps.

Something like this picture.

Dear Net,
Welcome to the forum. I am not sure if there are figures for your era, but I know that several Japanese companies make 1:144 plastic figures for that scale, mainly to go with 1:144 scale tanks and vehicles. There are also many wargaming companies that make 15mm figures for that historical era. This is equivalent to 1:120 scale. 10mm figures would be 1:180 scale.:)

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the answer!:)

Do you know of where I could order any of the figures you meansion. I suppose that I can alter some figures if it's not to much work.

What country do you live in? If I provide U.S. websites, it may be expensive having them shipped into your country.:)

I live in Sweden. But if you only know of US websites please give me some examples if you have. Maybe it would help me to look for websites in Europe.

Dear Net,
The following website lists all the manufacturers of 15mm (1:120) figures and sites where they can be bought.:)

http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/~kuijt/miscellania/figreview.html

The following websites have 10mm (1:180) figures:

http://www.eurekamin.com.au/ (click on the scale you want)

http://www.minifigs.com/catalog/ (they also make 1:160 scale figures, which might be the most appropriate for your purposes)

Thank you very much! You have been very helpful!

I will check them out.

Net: First, welcome to forum. The Wasa ship is similiar to a Viking Ship? My wife is Swedish from Varmland (her parents, wife born here). She brought me back a book on the Wasa ship in Stockholm. Is that a restored original ship they recovered? I have to find my book. I have it here somewhere. Hope your model turns out well. Leadmen ( John).

Hi Leadmen and thanks for the welcome!

No, I don't think you can say that it is a Pirate ship. The reason I perhaps wanted pirates is that they could look like the sailors of the Swedish navy at the time. As I understand it they didn't really had uniforms but their civilian clothes.

The Wasa was a ship in the Swedish navy in 1628 I think. Sweden was a rising superpower of the time. However it didn't participated in any battle since it sank on its maiden voyage. One of the reasons I think were that there were added another deck than was intended. So the ship wasn't very stable. I think they made a few mistakes like not securing the guns and not closing the gunports. (if I don't get the language right it's because I'm Swedish).

There were many attemps to pull the ship out of the sea but not until around 1960 they manage. It is now in a museum in Stockholm and I think it is one of the best preserved ships of the time.

Well, you can check the facts in your book! :) I might be wrong on some points.

Hm, read wrong I'm afraid. No, it is not a vikingship. This is much larger. And yes, it is a originalship that they recovered.

Yes I was looking up the ship. Sounds like the King and the ship designer who died while it was being built responsible. The Captain said it was not sea worthy and he was right. Capsized on test voyage. Investigation later held no one accountable. Some cannon were recovered at the time using a diving bell. When the ship was raised in the 60's they discovered a statute of a 1920 Finnish soccer star. They found out that some Finnish students dove to the wreck and put statute among the artifacts a week before ship was raised. Leadmen

Ok, didn't know that of the finnish students.

Well, still haven't found any crew. Maybe will have to do without.
