I happened across this range of books whilst looking for 'Flashman at the Charge', has anyone seen these or read any? and what do you think?

Jeff,

Here's a link to Amazon that lists his book. The ones that has reviews seem favorable.

Brad,

Thanks, seems like it could be the Sharpe equivalent of the Crimean War.

Jeff

Nice find, Jeff. I'll have to check these out - I've got a bit of Amazon gift certificate money to burn.

Hi Jeff,

Funnily enough, I can distinctly remember having one of these novels in my collection back in the day, not sure if it was one of the titles pictured below though. From a cursory inspection of my room, the book appears to have long since done a runner, however, from what I can dimly remember of it, I'd certainly reccommend the books as a decent read, Sharpe in the Crimean is a fairly accurate sumnation alright!

I seem to recall that the main character is from an aristocratic British family, yet fights in the ranks - in the episode I read, I think he was involved in some covert skullduggery around Sebastopol, I think the Thin Red Line may also have been featured. I can very clearly recollect that this character had some connection with the Connaught Rangers (88th Foot), which I was most pleased about as a youngster, as this was the former local regiment for the West of Ireland, where my parents are from.

Anyway, hope this is some help to you, I'd say definitely invest in a title or two!

Cheers,

Molloy.

What a coincidence! I have just managed to obtain the first four titles (2 new and 2 second hand) and from what I've read so far of 'The Devil's Own' (the first in the series) ties up with what you have said above. It is 'Sharpe in the Crimea' alright and right up my street.

:):)

Regards

Jeff,

Ha, excellent, I'm glad you're enjoying them. It's pleasing to know my memory hasn't completely gone south!! Looking at the titles on Amazon just now - I might well be tempted! Are you a collector of the Crimean series from K&C UK then??

Molloy,

The Crimean series from K&C UK is just about the best range of figures I think I have ever owned. Up to now I had collected K&C Napoleonics and had resisted the Crimean due to certain similarities, i.e. horse and musket period but I gave in (thankfully) and can't wait for the 'Thin red Line' figures due out in June.

I must admit to feeling a tug in the direction of the Crimean range myself - I'm going to try my best to hang on untill the Thin Red Line series is released. It's one of those periods that as recently as a year or so ago, I probably wouldn't have even considered, but having seen how well the range seems to have turned out, it's going to be increasingly tough to stay aloof!

Molloy,

Yes, I feel your pain! :D It's not helped much by reading books like this .
