Hello All and Mirof,

Here's another NHD figure bought and painted in 1993 with an alkyd resin oil paint, compatible with enamels and oil paints. As can be seen, the colours dry quite matt and are still vibrant despite the years. An interesting figure, the scale is slightly bigger than 1/32. I've recently rebased this figure on another one of my funkier bases. Awaiting lettering.

I rechecked my references. It is an Arapaho Indian shaman. She blows a whistle to summon the buffalo during the ceremony. On this piece, the whistle is moulded around the neck. In this piece, I decided to have her blowing on the whistle. I removed the moulded whistle and I made one out of thin tubing, inserted with a fine wire and attached this to her mouth which was drilled out to take the wire. I think that this improves the context of the figure and will complete it soon.

The pic shows the tubing stuck in her mouth and the moulded whistle before I removed the latter.

Hi All,

I finished painting this figure and also added lettering to the base. Finished!

Another completed and refurbished piece for my collection. Four all round views for you to enjoy the unusual base.

Victor,

what a coincidence .... This week I have just completed this same figure for a fellow local collector. he wanted it painted in gloss, no shading, and this is what I did...

I like all your detailing, a bit more that mine, but I did have the OSPREY book as the guide.

Hello John,

I don't think that one can compare model soldier and toy soldier styles. Both are valid styles and in my opinion, same as classical masters and impressionistic art.

Another way to look at this is that the easel is a blank canvas and we use paints to colour it. Thus, all miniatures, vintage or super detailed, could be painted in any style. For eg, even vintage Britains, meant for toy soldiers, were elevated to model soldiers by one of my favourite modellers Roy Dilley.

In retrospect, I prefer working with earlier figures to the very detailed new kits which don't leave much room for further improvements or conversions.

A friend acquired this piece and requested that I rebase it simply to fit into an Indian encampment scene with other figures.
