So I was just about to go to bed and toss in a documentary I bought today on _____________ and I got an email from one of our customers in France with photos of a new diorama he put together. If you recall, I posted some images of his last diorama showing French Line infantry attacking the British on the Mont St. Jean ridge. Well, this time he has taken his limitless talents to Plancenoit. He has dome some really fantastic work again on this one so I thought to share it with you all. I have to say, I'm extremely impressed with his ground work as well as his compositions. It's an excellent example of how you can make a shelf sized display really come to life. Enjoy!

Really excellent display in a small space. An advantage of Napoleonics is being able to put opposing sides close together. Much harder to do that with WW2 AFVs.

How cool would it be to have this sitting on the shelf. Between this and the previous dio from this customer, I would say he has some talent in putting together these compact, yet dynamic scenes.

Excellent scene Matt, thanks to both of you for sharing. It definitely has a nice dramatic effect. Now where did those stray Guards come from? Are they transfers from the ole South Essex?:D:D

Fantastic scene. Please express to him how we enjoyed it.

Matt.....

you're customer did a great job...and with your figures...it really looks spectacular!!!

Matt,

Thanks for posting it’s an inspiring piece, with excellent dimension to it.

I haven’t as yet ventured into First Legion, but your figures look simply superb and I find myself increasing tempted to dabble in the Napoleon's Europe range. Thanks for the dilemma!

Do you know by chance the dimensions of the base?

Regards,

Alby

Hi, Alby,

Guy mentioned that he had a third dio planned using the Nassau figures for Papellotte that would sit between these two dios and that once complete all three combined would measure a meter square. So the assumption is that the length of these dios is one meter and each is 1/3rd of a meter deep.

As for your dilemma, if you're anything like me, choosing a new range to collect often takes a lot of careful consideration and planning to the point where it can actually be stressful. At least it always was for me - "planning" a collection often becoming a hobby of it's own. I can say this, however - if you do take the plunge I'm about near certain you won't be disappointed. ;)

Best,

Matt

Hi Alby,
I highly recommend that you take the jump into the First Legions superb Napoleonic range we would love the company but I must warn you they are very additive and like anything else that is additive you can't have just one ;)

Very true mate; seems you can't stop at 100 either.;) Indeed you would be most welcome Alby and I am also sure you would not be disappointed.

Terry is so right.

I love the diorama. It is very well dome and really showcases the FL figures.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the advice and forewarning on the addition part. I haven't collected Napoleonic’s as yet and I am certainly impressed by FL range, although I haven't had the opportunity to see one in person. Now will it be 1812 or 1815! ... I will have to give that some considered thought.

Matt, thanks for the heads up on the dimensions.

Alby

I asked Guy where he diplays these dioramas and I got one of the most creative responses I've seen to date.

Please see the images below:

The above two images show the Plancenoit display permanently housed in what used to be a spot for a fish tank. Personally, I think this is brilliant as to me, it's like looking through a window to another world.

The British Guards dio has a more traditional display area, being shown in a glass display case. Looks great, but not nearly as interesting as the fish tank.

Just thought you guys would appreciate this. I know I did....

WOW ! That looks Great ...very creative . He must have a very understanding wife to give the Figures such a prominent place and not have to be tucked away in the Man cave ( War Room):) **** those FL figs look Good, like I said you can't have just one or a hundred for that matter.;)

I truly appreciate how nicely he has displayed his dioramas and figures. What makes it so nice is the absence of clutter. The diorama placed in the fish tank looks as natural as the other works of art on displayed.

This is how I would like my house to look like. That would make an interesting magazine article, how to display your figures as part of an overall room design. Of course the fact that his dioramas look so great are that they themselves are indeed works of art. My diorama making skills have a long ways to go yet before I would to be able to match his. :)

Thank you for sharing these images of your home.

I would agree, very creative way to display the larger diorama. I think it looks great. One question, what is the diorama base made of? Foam or something else? I would think trying to lower the diorama into an aquarium would be a tricky thing if it had a lot of weight to it....

Whatever it is, I love it!

It is very nice and creative. I'm bettering the back opens to slide in whatever you like. I don't think it is a built in aquarium.

Actually, he told me that the wooden top of the aquarium bar comes off. It is a built in aquarium. So once he takes the wood off top off, he simply lowers the diorama without the figures on it into place. The diorama itself is made of extruded polystyrene, which is a very light material, as is the best material to use for making sculpted baseboards because it's light, strong, and sandable. He then puts the figures in place. The figures are separate so that he can use them for other dios.
