How about the half and 3/4 figures or even from neck height up with the base blue as if water/waves, or flat so that they can go straight onto a river or sea? I love the earlier released Ranger figures, DD47, 48, 61, and 62 and like how the figures have some historical accuracy regarding kit, however there are a few things which you notice when you re-enact a certain unit, however I am not complaining about these things, as some are even good points, they are just things I have noticed on the superbly detailed figures^&grin :
- There are lots of riflemen which is good as this is what squads would have been like during the war
- There are two radiomen! (Andy is a man after my own heart!^&grin) One showing how the radioman would have used his backpack radio, and another on the same base as an NCO who is using the handset!
- Not all the figures have shovels
- There is only one thompson sub-machine gunner
- The figures in each of the above sets do not have lifebelts
- There are only five figures in a group of 16 with the orange diamonds on their helmets
- The BAR man has a helmet net on his helmet with the large squared pattern on it, but Rangers never used these, they used the british made ones with the smaller square pattern nets
- The medic has two armbands on which would not have been done
- The first eight released figures never had gas brassards, however this was corrected in the next batch so well done Andy!^&grin AND the newer Rangers have the lifebelts!:wink2:
- There is one wounded man in a total of 16 figures which is a good ratio, but in a diorama the wounded really tell the story of that specific dio!
- The m-1928 packs which some of the man wear have been painted grey to match the colour of the life vests
- Not all
- The bases on the figures would make it look odd for the figures to be placed on the part of a diorama which would be blue for water as it would just look like a figure standing on it's base on water, thus the idea of half figure with water bases!^&grin
The bases on the figures could also be done in grey like the Navy fgures so that the figures are better placed on a landing craft or ship's deck?
Another idea that popped into my head sort of related to the D-Day Rangers is the idea of a blown up/sinking landing craft?^&grin Imagine having this in your diorama maybe 15cm back from your sand area with the craft angled into the water? Could get some Build-A-Rama smoke and place it inside the sinking craft, could also get some half figures of GIs swimming or floating in the water and put it round the craft, maybe a few dead floating in the water beide the craft?{eek3}
Blown up/damaged D-Day tank to sit on a beach like it has been knocked out with some crew diving for cover behind or away from it, crew with, could even make it from half way up with the sides covered so again this vehicle could also sit on the water?^&grin
