Thanks guys, very kind of you. There are several types of dio water effect products on the market and these are all worth a go,its very much trial and error. As for the sand I had two types of real sand. One thicker sand from the Normandy beaches and a thinner type (more like kids play sand)from the south coast of England.I spread mine over a painted base and then applied a fine mist of scenic cement.

if only i llived in europe,i couild get some of that sand.:)
maybe i can find a bottlie of sand on e-bay.you never know what pops up on there.

You are right there,I understand that just recently there was Normandy sand for sale on ebay. However there are of course ethical issues about its use,I decided against in the end.

I wonder how the seller proposed to validate it? Besides the obvious fact that sand at Normandy today is very different than what was there in 1944, it would take a lab report and some form of chain of custody evidence to support its authenticity and even then that is assuming that the Normandy beach sand has some unique chemical or physical property that cannot be duplicated by sand from anywhere else?;)

I think to use sand from the D-Day beaches, one should collect it themselves or have a European friend get some. No way I would buy it on e-bay - too commercial for me.
