WW2 is not my area of collecting, but this just popped into my mind as a possible new item for collectors displaying D-Day dioramas... how about GI's on ropes scaling the rock cliffs at Omaha beach? Maybe, even scaling ladders, but I'm unsure if ladders of any kind were used there?

P.S. If you want to send me a free figure for this idea you know where to find me! :)

Hello Historyfortheages!

Great idea! To answer your question, this is what I know about the subject, Company C 2nd Ranger battalion used their bare hands and bayonets to advance up the bluffs with some help from toggle ropes. At Pointe Du Hoc Companies D, E and F of the 2nd Ranger Battalion used grapnel hooks, toggle ropes and ladders (that were in four foot sections; each man carried one and upon reaching the bottom of the cliff would interlock them to however high they needed to be.) Here are some pictures of what was used at Pointe Du Hoc.

If you go to Osprey's raid website and look in their image gallery, they have a pretty good drawing of Pointe Du Hoc.
