Here's to the memory of the men of 617 squadron and all those 53 crew killed during the raid on the Ruhr Dams on the night of 16/17 May 1943. Using bouncing bombs designed by Barnes Wallace this was quite possibly the most daring and famous raid of WW2.

My deepest respect to all those RAF crew and ground crew involved in Operation Chastise.

For anyone who has seen the live BBC see prog tonight, the one remaining UK air worthy Lancaster has flown over the dams where 617 squadron got used to flying at lethally low levels, the scenes are so evocative. My God these guys had some stones.
