On a side note, anyone seen the trailer to Greyhound? [/FONT][SUB][SUP]

Yes it is.If it had been the whole sub I probably would have gotten it.

Yes a stunning piece, needed to be full length for me to jump in, but I can also understand space issue would than come into play. Nice though Rob. Robin.

Not offering it in a full length version was a real blunder. The exact total length could have been reduced a bit out of scale, but at least you'd have the complete boat. Also, the shorter current version as is could still have been offered.

However, as is it's pretty nice and was a daring project for The Collector's Showcase to pull off so well!

WesternOutlaw, random question, but is the frame that comes with the U-96 set a complete base that holds the sub and water pieces or is just a frame that fits around them when placed on a flat surface?

I ordered the U-96 set from a small retailer and the model didn’t come with the frame, which I knew when ordering. I saved nearly $300 ordering from the retailer as opposed to direct from TCS. It just didn’t feel right paying so much extra just to get a wooden frame!

It's just an open (no bottom) frame that fits around the set. While it is open and not too fancy, it does sort of "finish off" the set. You might be able to make a similar frame our of some wood.

Saving $300 is pretty good. Don't blame you a bit.

Let me see, here's a picture that shows the frame:

Awesome, thanks! I’m probably just going to make my own frame with some wood... It definitely needs a very sturdy base. Still, the U-96 set is very well done and I’m glad I finally broke down and got one!

Petition Brian for additional U-Boat sections. Given sufficient interest I am sure he would consider making them.

I have, Katana; as well as a small cable/string accessory pack. Ended up "stringing it" myself.

I can't help but wonder how many of these complete sets TCS sold given the overall price. I had initially planned to purchase a piece each month but was concerned that some of the more popular sections (like the tower) may not be available at a later time. I don't believe this was the case given that most/all of the pieces including the figures are still available.

In any case, I do not regret buying and really appreciate the set every time I look at it. A few additional sections would have even made it that much better.

I also wanted a small dinghy/raft with some figures to go with it. Had to use my K&C commandos.

I held off for a couple years on getting this set due to the list price, but finally caved a couple weeks ago - in part due to your excellent pics of the set, WesternOutlaw 😉

I really wish TCS would make the remaining hull sections, though really, the set is fine as is... And speaking of the rubber dinghy, I found an old Thomas Gunn set consisting of a rubber raft, oars, and a couple crates. I can’t remember the product code, but it’s basically the same piece as their SS051 and PARA005 sets minus the figures. It should look good on the empty rear deck portion of my U-Boat.

Thanks Tman. I look forward to seeing how you display with the raft.

The CS U-Boat remains one of my favorite toy soldier sets.

It is so well done and tells many stories even as it simply sits on a display shelf.

Hi Western outlaw, what did you use and how did you make the line rigging? Thanks
Hi there,

Real simple; I just purchased some black string and tied one piece from the rear railing taping the other end to the rear end of the sub.
The other piece, I tied to the snorkel taping it to the front of the ship.

Nothing elaborate but I think it looks pretty good.

This picture shows the strings a little better:
