I just watched this film and was rather impressed. There is a reason got an Oscar nod for Best Foreign Language Film and won the 2006 Cannes Film Festival Best Actor award for its ensemble cast. It is a rather sad but moving tribute to four North African soldiers who join the French army to help liberate France from Nazi occupation during World War II. It is a part of the history of that war that I really knew very little about and seemingly not one of France's better moments. It is worth a look if you haven't seen it.

It was a great movie, the ending got to me; as you said, a chapter in the history of WWII I knew very little about prior to seeing the movie, so I learned something as well.

Not a proud moment in French military history to say the least.......

Superb movie. Even Mrs Evzone gave it the thumbs up. The ending sticks in my mind too and is a sad testimony to all 'colonial' troops who fought for the 'mother' country. Maybe Her Majesty's Government should have watched it before embarking down the shambles of a policy with the Gurkhas!!

I'va always found French Colonial troops a fascinating subject especially those who served in the the 1870 war.

BTW anybody looking for the DVD in the UK should head for HMV - they were selling it for under a tenner.
