I have a customer wondering what the box is on the front of the jeep. I assume it's a toolbox of some sort...can anyone clarify for me?

The construction of the box is typical of a US artillery ammunion crate. OK, why would a jeep need an artillery ammunition crate? 1) Because the troops would use empty ammo crates to keep personnal stuff or 2) Andy just didn't care and thought that type of crate looked good in the model ;-)

I would hate to be the one who needs to run for more ammo under heavy fire:eek:

I remember seeing a box just like that in my grandma's garage in the Philippines. She was using it as a tool box. It has some faded markings. The only one I could read is U.S. Army and "RIOJA" anyone knows what RIOJA means?

Rioja is a well known wine region in Spain
guy:)

I think it was to help the mold of the metal bar at the front of the jeep stay on, rather than leaving it flimsy and vulnerable, the box gives the bar stability on the front of the jeep as it looks molded to the actual chasis and the bar.

p.s. They have a 30.cal so they might need an ammo box, even though it's sort of the wrong kind:confused::eek:
Just my thoughts!:D

Oops - the question was supposed to be about the bar on the front bumper. Can anyone clarify that?

The bar on the front bumper is a wire cutter.....used to snap any wire strung across a road neck high.

Its an ammo packing code, usually seen on artillery ammunion. I can't quote the exact meaning but it shows up on decal and transfer sheets for US 105mm howitzer ammo crates.

Uh-oh, granny must be selling Spanish wine issued to US Army in the black-market. Well. I wouldn't be surprised because her house was sequestered by the Japanese Imperial Army in WWII and was turned to a KP HQ...later taken over by the U.S. Army as a QM post. BTW her house was only 35 miles to Cabanatuan ( and 25 miles to Clark Air Force Base known as Fort Stotsenberg pre-WWII) where most American POWs were interned and later rescued by the US Rangers.

Thanks Gary. I guess this clears granny as a "blackmarketer" of Spanish wine.LOL:D
