The DD68 Ambulance Jeep is a lot smaller than the DD49 Jeep. So much so, it looks like a different scale. What's the deal? Where there really two different size jeeps historically?

:( The Sculpture, is making even the Figure's Smaller? The Tanks have gotten Smaller also? The Original OLD Retired Sets were Larger! Maybe we have to DUMP This Sculpture?

...Maybe we have to DUMP This Sculpture?

Quality man, quality. And, as Tonto said, "What's this we stuff?" to the Lone Ranger, as they were surrounded by Indians and the Lone Ranger said, "We are in trouble now Tonto."

I just writing my want list out for the June show, and someone said Jeep!.Now i have to start again!!:D

As Andy explained at the Symposium, until recently the vehicles were being sculpted in 1:30 scale, but due to shrinkage in the molds, were often coming out closer to 1:32 scale. Andy has since remedied the problem by allowing for shrinkage when the vehicles are sculpted, so the newest vehicles, at true 1:30 scale, will be a bit larger than the vehicles produced in the last couple of years, which were a bit smaller than the original vehicles.

Louis. Let's see..The newer releases are going to be a little larger than the last batch?Which was slightly smaller than the previous stuff?Which was maybe a tad lager the what came before?Or was it a wee bit smaller? The ealier release being some what bigger><than the first?Heeelllppp Mee!!! Mr. Wizzard! I'm sooo confused??

Whatever he said goes for me........Michael

I don't make the news, I only report it. That's what Andy explained when we asked him about the scale issues. Take it for what its worth.

So if I understand correctly... there was no problem when the DD49 was produced, but shrinkage occurred when DD68 was produced. And post DD68 the problem has been fixed, so we can expect that the DD75 Patrol Jeep will be closer in size to the DD49, right??

According to Andy, yes, you are correct.

I don't know anymore! As I said earlier, I simply think it's a change in supplier or manufacturer being contracted by K&C.

If you would recall I raised the issue of the "thick" windshield (but the good news is it folds). Now, what's this I hear... it's bigger than the previously produced Jeeps? The previous Jeeps are already bigger, scale wise, in looks compared to FOV, Figarti, and C21.

So, will the real 1/30 please stand up! Well, I guess we'll have to wait until its final release. If it's bigger, I will be returning it.

With the price and image of K&C, there's no excuse for not being consistent in scale. Change the mould if you have to (it's a good business practice).

...just a little concerned on the direction KC is going to.

Just for the record, FOV, Figarti and C21 are all 1:32 scale companies. The earliest K&C jeeps (from the Arnhem series) were 1:32 scale and comparable to those produced by these companies. The first polystone jeeps (DD14) were close to true 1:30 and a bit larger. The BB MP jeep was also closer to true 1:30 than the medic jeep, which was probably 1:31. The new patrol jeep is back to true 1:30.

I've noticed some variations in size among polystone vehicles over the years, but, as the detail has steadily improved, I really haven't worried about it (I would never display early polystone stuff from 1998-2002 on the same diorama as 2005-2007 production, forget the slight size variations, the older polystone vehicles were of much poorer quality and would stamnd out like a sore thumb - sit a IWJ11(w) original Battle fo the Bulge Sherman next to the General Inspection Sherman and you will see what I mean).

That being said, I agree with N-P that Andy really should get his scale corrected and standardized now that he has fixed his other problems (like track detail and interior detail on closed cab vehicles). However, considering the fact that Andy has addressed these other issues in the last year, after negative feedback from forum members, myself included, I would hesitate to question the direction K&C is going.

Thanks, Louis...now I can sleep easy. If it's the same as the MP Jeep then that's a-ok. The ambulance Jeep is indeed smaller, not that much though, 1/31 I would surmise ( you can see from the tires) but the good thing is, with all the stacked items (injured G.I, medic, driver, and stretches, you'll hardly note the difference.
