Does anyone find it infuriating when you can't buy items from a dealer online in this day and age? I've recently encountered two dealers that have an online presence whereby you can view the items for sale but in order to make a purchase you have to either telephone or email and trust them not to mislay your details. I find this a rather curious way of doing business in the 21st century.

I'm old school...
my phone is not very smart...
I would prefer direct contact...
but I'm a dinosaur in today's technology...
I prefer 2 buttons only on most things...
on and off...

I'm really sorry about that, I'm really good about not mislaying customers information if you wanted to give it a go.

Or businesses that take credit cards online, but use http instead of https. What can go wrong with sending an un-encrypted credit card number over the internet?

A lot?

You’re being sarcastic, right?

If it makes you feel better you don't have to talk to me or Jeff when ordering on the Treefrog site! And we use HTTPS and pay for the highest security locks for our site.

But if you enter your own address in wrong...... ;) We can't take the fall for that one!

Yes, being sarcastic. You should never send any sensitive info such as CC number, SSN, passwords, etc. on a site that is just http.

Fortunately, recent versions of Chrome and Firefox inform you if you are on a site that does not use https encryption. Dunno about IE, haven't used that in years.

For example, here is what Chrome shows for TT.

Infuriating? No. In the long run, there are far more things to get upset about.

Inconvenient? Perhaps. But then, many things in life are inconvenient, and so again, it's a matter of perspective.

Prost!

I like the convenience of "online" and it IS perhaps too easy to forget the benefits of face to face (ah where have all the toy soldier shops gone?) or telephone or even e mail contact.

As an example i emailed John Eden (Studios) to enquire about making an order. His reply was helpfulness personified and the fact that he offered to make bases for the mounted troops that matched those of the foot figures was very welcome. Having encountered this I was moved to ask whether he had any artillery pieces and lo and behold the superb Hinchcliffe British 13lb Land Mortar emerged from his (obviously) vast accumulation of useful items. Would I have got the land mortar kit without the contact? Would he have made me some nice flat bases for the Rose cavalry without the contact? Would JE have received all this praise with out? Probably not as nothing like that was advertised on his site.

The suppliers of our hobby items are generally highly knowledgeable and helpful and i am convinced that personal contact is really useful as well as being pleasurable to talk to people with, most likely, a similar love for toy and model soldiers. Much the same as any other form of collecting.

Actually I’m a big fan of your website and placing an order over the phone order. Quick chat, friendly service plus supporting a small business in this day and age.

well I find this quite a strange post by you, as you say you Collect/Buy JJD from Clive at Grey Goose, you have to either email your order or speak to him on the telephone to place an order, so I really don't understand what your saying here? and your quote at the bottom of all your post is confusing as well, If I have to phone or email your not getting my order?

I would have probably saved a lot of money if I couldn't order online.Progress{eek3}

Regarding the issue of no shopping cart, specifically on my website; I had a company come out here a few years ago and they gave me their sales pitch about my website.

Gee, really sorry I decided not to tear my website down and rebuild it, it would have cost a fortune and with this hobby taking on water by the day/heading in the wrong direction, not to mention my current webmaster, who has been tremendous the past 10 years or so, told me once that happens, he cannot update the site anymore, so the company that charges you an arm and a leg to rebuild/retool it also from that point on does the updates.

Funny how that works out.

I've been in business full time for over 20 years, have a **** ton of long time, loyal customers, many of whom I chat on the phone/via email with on a regular basis, that's called building relationships, which is pretty hard to do when all you do is point and click.

I've done very, VERY well for myself without having a website with all the latest bells and whistles, I'll be 60 in December and I really don't know how much longer I'll have skin in this game, we'll see how things shake out going forward, I'm well positioned to pack it in basically anytime I choose to, I'm not married to this/forced to keep doing it, I do it at this point because I love doing it, it's a blast and a ball and a **** ton of fun for me, plus the money ain't half bad.

If someone chooses not to buy from me because I don't have a shopping cart and OMG, they have to actually call me or email me, you're probably someone who's all hacked off for the past two months that you can't get a haircut, people around the world are dropping like flies, but God forbid you can't get your millennial brohammer stylish hairdo cut; don't worry, it will all be falling out down the road, one less thing to concern yourself over.

Nah George I got a cut today...1/2 on sides with a fade and cut the ends...in other words old school GI cut but longer on top. I'm letting my hippie come out. Nice to sit in the chair with my girl giving me a cut with the AC on deep freeze because it was 99 degrees today in SA.

We just re-designed our website...gulp...on writing that check.
