As Matt takes a short breather as the show starts in earnest Tims seeking new victims for his cutting knife and Matt's Dad Bill is putting on some finishing touches to his book display. Rob and Tony the show I'm sure is nothing like what you'll be attending on the 31st but it's great for us at this neck of the woods. Hope you enjoy the photos..........The Lt

Hey joe it looks like you snuck a photo of me when I wasn,t looking, I would have taken the picture with george if I hadn,t looked like I combed my hair with a rock!:p I had some real bad pillow hair going and i,m in bad need of a hair cut and have enough nick names on this forum without getting a new pillowhead nickname!:p
The show was on the small side this year with a lot of the venders having gone to the Indy show that was today also but, I still had a good time and found a few good deals and hung out with joe for the day.

You looked fine Tim and that's only one of three I took...Joe

Lt,
Great to see you, Tim, Fred and Debbie (nice shot of Fred with the Britains ambushed command vehicle he just bought from me under his arm), Corey and anyone else I am forgetting at the show today. As Tim said, it was short several regular dealers due to the Indy show being held on the same day, but the crowd was very good, well over 400 people, give Matt credit for handling all his duties at the Bunker AND still being able to spread the word about the show and fill both rooms with dealers, he did a bang up job.

Love the picture of the little guy and his dad at Matt's tables Lt, he's transfixed onto all the K & C goodies in front of him, THAT is what the hobby is all about, not how much stuff is worth on Ebay, buying stuff on speculation to sell later, etc, etc........................

Looks like a good time had by all. Thanks for sharing the pix.
Tim, Just be glad you still have hair, bedhead or not!
I' hope to see you all at the Chicago show.Waiting to hear back if I can get a room on the dealer floors.
As always George and Matts displays look fantastic and yer right George, that cute kid gazing in wonder is whats important.
Hope you all had a great time.

Fubus

Great pics Lt., sorry I was a no show. I did give my dog the day. He's getting up there in yrs. Tim I wish I had hair to sleep on. I hope everyone found some goodies, and I hope the dealers made out good. Again thanks for the pics Joe. Mike.

Great shots The Lt. and i too love seeing kids and dads getting into the hobby together.

Tony

Those dioramas are incredible. Do you know what Mr. Farina made the buildings out of? They look as real as any I've ever scene, right up there with Gordon Neilson's (incredible) latest efforts in wood and papier mache.

Louis Tim would be the one who provide you with a better answer as to what he used to create the buildings. I believe Joe has a web site and I'll make an effort to see if I can provide it for you. He does create some great works of art.........The Lt.

Gentlemen,
Joe Farina's products are available through myself, Minutemen Toy Soldiers. The items are made of modeling plaster; Louis, Hans purchased the factory complex from me (not shown in the photos) from me at OTSN one year. The items shown in the pictures are the Italian streetfront display and the ruined Belgian farmhouse. Joe scratch built the roof to the farmhouse as the kit does not come with one. I custom paint all of his pieces myself and they sell like hotcakes at the shows, they really do not travel well due to the material that they are made of............

Regards,
George

Thanks for show pics. Always nice to see what is happening. Indy show last Sun and I missed it this year.Slowly repairing. John

These are two additional photos of the Factory I mentioned in the last posting scaled down......The Lt.

You have to see these pieces in person to see how highly detailed theses pieces are, and how well painted, there incredible.
I talked with him a bit about how they are made and he uses all kinds of materials in his dioramas but for his buildings he seems to like that poster board stuff like the kids use to do there school projects if you know what i,m talking about, I don,t know the correct name for the stuff but its about a 1/4in. or less in thickness.
For his bricks he uses those pre-cut plastic sheets you can get in most hobby shops that come packaged up already cut into strips of various sizes and then just cuts them into brick sized pieces and glues them all on  lots of work but the finnished result is incredible looking realistic brick finnish.

When he has a finnished piece he makes a mould and sells them as kits made out of some kind of plaster or something similar.

The plaster he uses is the same as the type dentists use; I just got off the phone with him and he is currently working on another factory building to go on the other side of the existing one, the entire complex all set up is about 4' by 18", there is a picture of it on my site under the terrain section, I just finished one for a customer who is picking it up at the Wayne show on the 22nd......................

Regards,
George

Tim,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like he uses a lot of the same methods Gordon does, and with similarly amazing results! It must be nice to be that artistically talented and creative.

Hi Lt
Great to see images from other shows and faces to names...
A little boring to ask but how many traders/tables were there at the show and what sort of numbers through the door?
How sad am I to be asking that sort of stuff at 3.30am........it's my birthday on Monday and I can not sleep because I am excited about my party Julie is putting together for me...........sad, very sad!
Bob
