Hi everyone... first time poster long time reader... :)

Can someone tell me what sort or type or regiment the deetail waterloo cavalry figures are based on. I realize there is 2 of each for the british and 2 of each for the french. I am a newbie collector and have as most do, resorted to reliving my childhood... I have attached a couple of pics and have numbered the images for ease of reply. Any help will be greatly appreciated. all the best for the new year :)

I'm not sure of the exact rgiments for these figures but the general ID is:

1 British Hussae

2 British Lifeguard

3 Scots Greys (BUT NOT ON A GREY HORSE :( )

4 French Caribineer

5 French Curiasseur

6 French Chasseur a Cheval

By the way, its worth swapping horses and riders for 1 & 3

Its great to see another Aussie on-board :)

Happy New Year,

John

Hi John, thanks for that... greatly appreciated... !!!! would you be so kind as to do the same for my infantry versions... I've numbered them as well for ease. I,m trying to learn these things as I go. cheers barneywomble

Re: DEETAIL Waterloo Infantry Identification

I believe these are:

1. British 42nd Highland Regiment (Black Watch)
2. British 28th Regiment of Foot
3. French Chasseur
4. French Fusilier-Grenadier

Hi fort-stamford, thanks for completing my info. all the best for the new year. regards, marc

Marc,

I think that I differ with the ID on some given by Fort-Stamford.

1. Black Watch 42nd Regt of Foot by the 2 black tails on the white sporron and the tartan

2. British Infantry but could be any Line or Guards Regiment becsue no facing colour is shown on cuffs and collar.

3. French Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard

4. Line infantry could be Grendiers by the red plume or Voltiuers by the dark green ? epaulettes but not Fusiliers

Anyway, to make them look relaistic, they need a repaint !!

HI John, thanks again for your input. Obviously they are not deetailed enough (pardon the pun) but it gives me an indication of what the sculptor was aiming at. I've put together quite a decent collection of the deetails and am only missing a few... have now started to work my way back through the Heralds and Swoppets... it's good clean fun and my wife does not mind (which is the main thing... right?). I know there are more collectable models out there but I think in time the deetail range along with the heralds and swoppets will become prized with other collectors in their own right. all the best, marc

John,
As to figure no.3, French Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard had shako plates on their bearskin headgear, while French Chasseurs of the Guard did not have shako plates. I believe shako plates are missing on these figures.

As to figure no.4, French grenadier-fusiliers did where red epaulettes. There is even a picture of them in Osprey. A repaint on these plastic figures could change them easily to a wide variety of regiments with no question.

Yes,

I totally agree with you, and also about a repaint,

but these were made to be played with, and not put on shelves behind glass, like most of the figures made today.

they do represent the opposing armies, are easily recognised, and a great set for wargames in the sand pit :) :)

John

All the Deetail figures (ACW, FFL, Knights, Napoleonic) except those MINT in their original boxes; in my collection, are available to my granchildren when they come to visit. They love them!!! I've made them castles and forts and have occassional access to the firing toy artillery pieces, so they can enjoy them as I did with Barclay and Manoil figures when I was their age. I am amazed how they respect the lead toy soldiers (view but don't touch) when viewing the dioramas and displays around them. TSSD figures are also a good buy for the young ones.
